New Interest in Port Adelaide Star
A fresh contender has entered the race for a star player from Port Adelaide, sparking discussions among fans and media. The situation has raised questions about whether the Crows have faced another round of questionable umpiring decisions. There’s much to unpack from the latest media buzz.
Tigers Show Interest in Zak Butters
Richmond has joined the competition to sign Port Adelaide’s free agent and standout player, Zak Butters. The Tigers have been quietly saving money over the past few seasons, focusing on the draft before the arrival of Tasmania. Butters has been heavily linked with the Western Bulldogs and Geelong. According to AFL Media, Richmond could offer close to $2 million for at least eight years.
South Australian Icon Predicts Power Star’s Departure
Adelaide champion and SA icon Mark Ricciuto believes Zak Butters is a 99 percent chance of leaving Port Adelaide. “Oh, look, all I can go on is what I get told from everyone and everyone says he’s probably a 99 per cent chance of going,” Ricciuto said. He added that the list managers at Port Adelaide might offer him another half a million a year on top, depending on how desperate they get. “They might offer him, who knows, $2.5 million or something.”
Ricciuto also mentioned that everyone is throwing $2 million out there as the magic figure for Melbourne clubs, but Port Adelaide might go for two and a half. “They might let him go and say ‘let’s get as many picks as we can’ and do the rebuild.”
Blues Legend Calls for Coaching Change
Brendan Fevola has called for a change in the coaching position after a disastrous start to the season. Michael Voss has placed immense pressure over the past 12 months.
Crows Face Costly Umpiring Error
Adelaide’s bad luck with umpiring has resurfaced once again, with the league acknowledging another mistake. During the nail-biting loss to Fremantle in Round 4, the umpires and AFL admitted that a 6-6-6 warning should have been called. The Dockers wouldn’t have been penalised for the infringement, but they were able to set up with seven defenders instead of six. A full list of umpiring errors costing Adelaide is available here.
South Australian Premier Wants Gather Round Long-Term
Peter Malinauskas wants the AFL’s Gather Round to be long-term, but needs assurances from the league. The SA premier stated he would continue to invest in growing the concept throughout the state and needed the backing of a multi-year deal.
Cornes Criticises Darcy Fogarty’s Injury
Adelaide forward will miss a second game in a row due to a back issue, with the club confirming a disc problem. However, leading into last week’s clash with Fremantle, Fogarty was spotted on the golf course two days before the match. The Crows denied any relation between his injury and his golfing exploits, but former Port Adelaide player Kane Cornes wasn’t convinced.
Hawks Coach Moves Management
Sam Mitchell has followed former Essendon captain Zach Merrett in moving away from TGI Sports’ Tom Petroro, joining the stable at Bravo Management. Mitchell, Petroro, and Merrett were key figures in last year’s trade period, but were unable to orchestrate a deal that would put the latter in Hawks colours.
