A New Chapter for Falkirk
Falkirk’s Liam Henderson has called on his teammates to push even further and create more history this season following their recent achievement of securing a place in the Scottish Premiership’s top six. The team’s victory over Motherwell on Saturday, with a 3-2 win at Fir Park, not only secured their position in the top half of the table but also allowed them to focus on challenging for fifth place and preparing for their upcoming Scottish Cup semi-final against Dunfermline Athletic.
This season has already been one of remarkable success for Falkirk. They have made history by going unbeaten in the Scottish League One, winning back-to-back SPFL titles, and now achieving a top-six finish in their return to the top flight. Many believe this is the best Falkirk team ever, but Henderson insists there is still more to achieve before they can claim that title.
A Dream Come True
Henderson expressed his excitement after the impressive victory, which was marked by goals from Barney Stewart, Ben Broggio, and Calvin Miller. He told the Falkirk Herald: “This is what dreams are made of. Could I have imagined this three years ago? Probably not. It is such a huge achievement for us individually as players and as a team collectively. From where we have come from… to get here is just massive. It took a lot of hard work inside and outside of the club. Credit has to go to everyone within the club and outwith who have supported us and made this happen. It is such a good feeling. I’m over the moon.”
He also reflected on the game between Dundee United and Celtic, saying: “Obviously with the game last weekend between Dundee United and Celtic, you start thinking about it a wee bit, thinking surely not, but we knew it was in our hands. To go and do it ourselves and to put a marker down like that today was outstanding. I thought the game plan was executed to a tee. We scored some really good goals, and theirs could have been more goals. It is different class to beat Motherwell here again – they are a top side who play good football. To go here, match their style of play and match their energy is unreal.”
Looking Ahead
Falkirk will now face title-hopefuls Rangers at home this Sunday before heading to Hampden for a chance to reach the Scottish Cup final. This opportunity could also lead to European football via the cup or league, providing a real incentive for the squad during the final run-in.
Fans have already labeled this group as the best-ever Bairns, but Henderson believes they haven’t quite sealed that status yet. However, if they turn a remarkable season into an extra special one, they could be considered the greatest Falkirk side of all time.
“I’ve spoken about it before, you have to sometimes pinch yourself thinking about where you’ve come from,” he explained. “It is mad. I know it is the same for a lot of the boys. We could potentially be the greatest Falkirk side to ever be. But we have to earn that. We’ve got two massive games coming up with the final league match before the split then the Scottish Cup game. We want to make sure there is another Scottish Cup game to play after that one. We’ve managed to create history throughout the past three years. We did it again today but we want that to continue.”
Chasing Hibs
Henderson is also looking forward to challenging Hibs in the next six games. The 29-year-old, who is a fan of Hibs, is aiming to beat David Gray’s side.
“The main focus before today was to secure the top-six spot,” he added. “Internally that was the goal. But now we can look forward to playing our part in this title race, and what an end to the season it is going to be. We can play a big part in that, we aren’t just happy to be involved. To play in it will be incredible and we have…”
“Now we can only look forward to what a tight race it’s going to be, especially to play in it and be involved in it. It’s going to be amazing. We aren’t changing anything – we go into each and every match looking to win it. We want to give the fans even more to cheer about. There’s going to be some twists and turns to come.”
