WrestleMania 42 Ads Spark Fan Outrage – ‘Are You Kidding Me?’

Wrestling fans have expressed frustration over the excessive number of commercials during WrestleMania 42, with one particular moment drawing widespread criticism.

Following the United States Championship match, where Trick Williams defeated Sami Zayn to claim the title, fans were left bewildered by a four-minute commercial break that aired on their screens. Instead of typical advertisements, only the WrestleMania logo appeared with the message, “We’ll be right back.”

This unexpected pause led to a wave of complaints from viewers. One fan wrote on X, “No backstage interviews? No commentary. A static screen,” calling the experience “crazy.” Another described WrestleMania as “ads with a side of wrestling.” The incident sparked heated discussions across social media platforms, with many fans feeling that the event had become more about advertising than the actual wrestling.

Triple H’s reaction to Oba Femi’s WrestleMania debut was particularly notable, as his two-word response seemed to capture the sentiment of many fans.

Other memorable moments from the show included:

  • George Kittle stealing an NBA star’s drink and chugging it in a chaotic scene.
  • Stephen A. Smith learning what WWE fans think of him after snubbing the Knicks for WrestleMania 42.

According to Ceaser Wrestling, a popular X account with over 20,000 followers, Night 1 of WrestleMania featured 57 minutes of advertising during a nearly four-hour show. This has led to growing discontent among fans, who feel that the event is becoming too commercialized.

One fan wrote, “HOW MANY ADS DO WE ACTUALLY NEED?” while another joked, “What’s next, slap a Twinkie ad on all the steel chairs??”

The backlash extended beyond just the length of the commercials. Some fans took it a step further, saying, “Ads on ads on ads on ads on ads on ads and some wrestling… throw the whole sport in the garbage man.” Others compared the event to the Super Bowl, writing, “This is WrestleMania, not the Super Bowl!”

A few fans even suggested that WWE should consider reverting to single-night events if they couldn’t manage the schedule without excessive advertising. One person wrote, “Get rid of the ads! And if you don’t have enough planned for a second night, go back to one night events! It’s not going to kill you!”

In the United States, ESPN was the exclusive broadcaster of WrestleMania 42 for both nights. International fans, however, had the option to watch the show on Netflix.

Despite the controversy surrounding the advertising, the event still drew massive attention from wrestling enthusiasts. The combination of high-stakes matches, surprise appearances, and dramatic storylines kept fans engaged, even as they voiced their frustrations about the commercial breaks.

As the wrestling world continues to evolve, the balance between entertainment and advertising remains a topic of discussion. For now, fans are hoping that future events will find a way to deliver more wrestling and fewer interruptions.
