Ogun State Police Arrest Three Suspects in Operations Targeting Cult and Criminal Activities
The Ogun State Police Command has made three arrests in a series of operations conducted across the Mowe and Sagamu areas, recovering locally made firearms, cartridges, and charms linked to cult-related and criminal activities. These operations were part of intelligence-led efforts by divisional units and the Quick Response Squad (QRS).
According to a statement issued by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the arrests took place between April 14 and 18, 2026. The operations were carried out as part of stop-and-search duties aimed at curbing unlawful possession of weapons and addressing violent crimes.
First Arrest in Mowe: Suspect Linked to Eiye Confraternity
In the first incident, police acted on credible intelligence about a suspicious individual loitering near a bus stop in Mowe. On April 14, 2026, at around 1630 hours, operatives from the Mowe Division responded to the tip-off.
The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Opeyemi Anuoluwapo, was arrested. A search of his belongings reportedly led to the recovery of a locally made single-barrel pistol, an expended cartridge, and some charms. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity, a known cult group associated with violent activities.
Second Arrest in Sagamu: Motorcycle Interception
On April 17, 2026, officers from the Quick Response Squad intercepted a Bajaj motorcycle along the Lafarge axis on the Sagamu–Ogijo Road. The rider, Asaye Ajibola, 30, was detained after a search of the vehicle revealed a locally made single-barrel gun loaded with nine cartridges.
The suspect was arrested after failing to provide a satisfactory explanation for possessing the weapon. This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by the police to prevent illegal firearm possession and curb related crimes.
Third Arrest: Double-Barrel Gun Recovered
A third arrest occurred on April 18, 2026, when another motorcycle was intercepted along the same Lafarge axis. A QRS team stopped a Honda motorcycle, and the rider, Adedeji Olufemi, 49, was found in possession of a locally made double-barrel gun with eight cartridges.
The suspect was arrested on the spot after he could not account for the firearm. This incident further underscores the police’s commitment to dismantling networks involved in illegal arms trafficking and cult activities.
Transfer to Criminal Investigation Department
Babaseyi confirmed that all three suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution. The command emphasized that these arrests are part of a broader strategy to address violent crimes and ensure public safety.
Commissioner Praises Operatives’ Efforts
The state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their professionalism and proactive approach in conducting these operations. He reiterated the command’s commitment to intensifying intelligence-driven efforts against unlawful firearm possession, cultism, and other violent crimes.
The police continue to work closely with the community to gather intelligence and carry out targeted operations that contribute to maintaining law and order in the state.
