Mamie Gummer ends six-year marriage after divorce settlement

Meryl Streep’s Daughter Finalizes Divorce

Mamie Gummer, the daughter of renowned actress Meryl Streep, has officially finalized her divorce from Mehar Sethi. The We Were Liars actress filed for divorce in February 2025 after six years of marriage. According to recent reports, Gummer confirmed to a Los Angeles court that she and Sethi are legally prepared to finalize their split.

Gummer, who is 42 years old, listed the date of separation as May 6, 2023. The couple shares two children: seven-year-old son Peter and four-year-old daughter Mary. In her original filing, Gummer requested joint legal and physical custody of the kids. However, documents regarding the agreed-upon terms of custody and spousal support have been kept private.

Gummer and Sethi became engaged in August 2018 and announced they were expecting a child later that same year. They married in February 2019 and welcomed their son Peter the same month. Their daughter Mary was born in 2021. This marks the second divorce for Gummer, who was previously married to Benjamin Walker from 2011 to 2013.

A Family with Rich History

In addition to her oldest daughter, 76-year-old Meryl Streep shares son Henry, 46, and daughters Grace, 39, and Louisa, 34, with her ex-husband, Don Gummer. The couple was married for 45 years before they announced their split in October 2023. They tied the knot in 1978 and revealed at the time that they had been separated ‘for more than six years’ after deciding to live their ‘lives apart.’

Streep has since moved on with Martin Short, her co-star from Only Murders in the Building. Their romance came as a surprise to fans, but it was described as the ‘worst kept secret’ on the set of the Hulu series. A source claimed their ‘affection’ was palpable both on and off-screen.

Promoting the Return of a Classic

Streep has been busy promoting the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada. The follow-up to the original 2006 film sees Anne Hathaway returning as Andrea Sachs, the former Runway magazine assistant who returns to work with editor-in-chief Miranda Priestley (played by Streep) as her features editor.

Miranda Priestley was inspired by real-life Vogue editor Anna Wintour, 76. In anticipation of the movie’s release, Streep and Wintour are featured as the cover stars of Vogue’s May issue. Wintour expressed her trust in Streep when it came to shooting the second movie.

‘I do think they’ve located something true about the [fashion] business now,’ Streep noted about returning to the film 20 years later. Her comments highlight the enduring relevance of the story and the continued fascination with the world of high fashion.
