Jill Jones Reveals Prince’s Alleged Abuse in Shocking Account

The Unseen Side of Prince: A Story of Love, Control, and Abuse

Prince, the legendary musician known for his iconic work and enigmatic personality, left a lasting impact on the music world. However, behind the scenes, there were stories of personal struggles and darker moments that have only recently come to light. One such story comes from Jill Jones, a former girlfriend of the late star, who has shared her experience of being abused by him.

Jill Jones, who was also a backing vocalist for Prince in the 1980s, revealed in a recent interview that she endured physical abuse at his hands. She described an incident where Prince punched her repeatedly in the face after she slapped him for kissing her friend. According to her, he told her, “B****, this ain’t no [expletive] movie.” This event occurred during a time when Prince was preparing for his Purple Rain tour, and Jill considered pressing charges. However, she was warned that doing so could ruin his career.

Despite the trauma, Jill eventually reconciled with Prince. She explained that after undergoing surgery, he showered her with gifts, including balloons, toys, and candy, as a form of apology. Their relationship continued for several years, with Jill noting how difficult it was for them to stay apart. Prince often expressed his belief that she would always be around, saying, “I’m always gonna know you.”

Jill’s account of her relationship with Prince was part of a nine-hour documentary on his life, which was ultimately blocked from release by his estate. The documentary, titled The Purple Rain Chronicles, aimed to provide an in-depth look at the singer’s life, including his personal relationships and struggles. However, the project faced significant opposition from the Prince Estate, which claimed that the film did not accurately represent the artist.

Another woman who had a relationship with Prince, Susannah Melvoin, also shared her experiences in the documentary. She alleged that Prince was emotionally controlling, monitoring her calls and preventing her from seeing her sister after moving in with him. These accounts added to the growing narrative of Prince’s complex personality, revealing a side of him that many fans may not have been aware of.

The shelving of the documentary came after a new deal was struck between the Prince Estate and Netflix. As a result, the focus shifted to a new film about the Purple Rain legend, one that would include exclusive content from Prince’s archive. In a statement, the Prince Estate said, “The Prince Estate and Netflix have come to a mutual agreement that will allow the estate to develop and produce a new documentary featuring exclusive content from Prince’s archive. As a result, the Netflix documentary will not be released.”

This decision sparked controversy among fans and critics alike. The original nine-hour documentary, directed by filmmaker Ezra Edelman, had been under scrutiny since the new executors of the estate reviewed a cut of the film. The film included allegations of physical and emotional abuse against Prince, as well as accounts of his difficult childhood and the loss of his son with ex-wife Mayte Garcia.

According to a New York Times article, the film had been criticized for being “sensationalized” by the Prince Estate. Charles Spicer, a close friend and former business advisor of Prince, reportedly posted on X: “We have a duty to honor and protect his legacy with a story that fairly shows him complexities as well as his greatness. #no9hourhitjob.”

Edelman, the director of the documentary, faced challenges in balancing the truth with the expectations of the Prince Estate. He was told that while he and Netflix would have final cut, the estate would review the film for factual accuracy. This led to a 17-page list of notes from attorney L. Londell McMillan, demanding changes to the film. While Edelman agreed to some of the suggestions, he refused to compromise on others, stating, “How can you tell the truth about someone who, when you’re talking to people, they all had different things to say? How can you tell the truth about someone who never told the truth about himself?”

The scrapped documentary, which included vault footage and interviews with over 70 people, was seen as a missed opportunity to provide a comprehensive view of Prince’s life. Despite its cancellation, the conversations it sparked continue to shed light on the complexities of the man behind the music.
