Newcastle Star Striker Lachlan Rose Set for A-League Men Finals
Newcastle Jets’ star striker Lachlan Rose is expected to be fully fit and ready to play in the A-League Men finals, according to coach Mark Milligan. The 26-year-old missed the team’s 4-0 victory over Central Coast in the F3 derby on Anzac Day due to a calf injury. However, the home side managed to secure a dominant win, scoring three goals within the first 23 minutes at McDonald Jones Stadium.
The Jets will have a bye weekend before they host a two-legged semi-final, with the goal of achieving a historic domestic treble. Milligan confirmed that it was the right decision to rest Rose, highlighting the importance of the medical team’s advice.
“Trust in our medical staff is crucial,” Milligan said. “They made the decision based on what’s best for ‘Rosie’. I have to trust their judgment, and the players do too.”
Rose has been a key player for the Jets this season, scoring eight goals and sitting just one behind club-leader Clayton Taylor. Despite his contributions, he has yet to win a league championship. After the finals, Rose will leave Newcastle to join Scottish Premiership side Dundee United on a two-year deal.

Other Precautionary Measures Taken by the Team
Resting Rose wasn’t the only precaution taken by the Jets. Winger Eli Adams faced a scare during the match when he injured his right ankle in the 53rd minute. The 24-year-old suffered the injury after his foot was caught while defending against Mariners left-back Lucas Mauragis.
Adams had previously scored a header in the 44th minute, joining Will Dobson, Taylor, and Kota Mizunama on the scoresheet. He was substituted off in the 55th minute, but Milligan confirmed that he was okay.
“I knew Eli was OK. He gave me a little thumbs-up,” Milligan said.
No Pressure on the Team
Milligan emphasized that there was no pressure on the team to complete the premiership-championship double, alongside their Australia Cup triumph from last October. No side has ever won that treble in a single season. Central Coast were the last team to achieve the league double, which also included an AFC Cup title.
“Now we start to see how brave teams really are in finals,” Milligan said. “I know one thing for sure: I’ve got a very, very brave group of boys who are willing to execute what we need no matter the circumstance or the situation.”
He added that there is no pressure on the playing group because they consistently perform well under all conditions.
“Their execution every day shows that they’re ready for whatever comes next,” Milligan concluded.
