According to the coroner’s findings, Anderson died from acute necrotizing pancreatitis, a severe condition that can lead to significant damage to the pancreas. However, a subsequent autopsy revealed additional serious medical issues that had been affecting the former Los Angeles Angels star.
The results of the autopsy indicated that Anderson suffered from a ‘massive fatty liver’ that weighed nearly 9.2lbs. This is significantly higher than the average adult male’s liver weight, which typically ranges between 3-4lbs. The presence of such an extensive amount of fat in the liver is indicative of ‘severe hepatic steatosis,’ the most advanced stage of fat accumulation in the organ.
In addition to the fatty liver, Anderson was diagnosed with ‘hypertensive-type cardiovascular disease,’ a condition that affects the heart and blood vessels. He also had cardiomegaly, an enlarged heart, which was found to weigh 450g during the autopsy. For an average adult male, the heart typically weighs between 250 and 350 grams.
Anderson’s passing occurred on April 16, following a medical emergency reported at his home in Newport Beach, California. His wife, Teresa, initially believed that her husband had died from a heart attack, highlighting the complexity of his health conditions.
