Chaos Erupts During UBO Championship Fight in Turkey
A boxing match in Turkey turned into a scene of chaos when spectators and members of the opposing team stormed the ring, leading to a violent confrontation. The event, which was supposed to be a celebration of victory for Russian fighter Sergei Gorokhov, quickly spiraled out of control.
Gorokhov (16-11-2) faced Emirkhan Kalkhan (7-0) at the Besirli Sports Hall. Gorokhov secured a stoppage victory in the second round, winning the UBO championship belt. After the fight, he celebrated with his corner team and approached Kalkhan to check on his opponent. However, this moment of sportsmanship did not go unnoticed by members of Kalkhan’s team.
One member of Kalkhan’s entourage pushed Gorokhov away, prompting one of Gorokhov’s cornermen to push him back. This small incident soon escalated into a full-blown clash between both teams. Before long, spectators began storming the ring, leading to a complete breakdown of order.
A Violent Scene Unfolds
Plastic chairs were thrown into the ring as chaos took over. Gorokhov’s trainer was attacked and kicked by several individuals. Gorokhov himself was also targeted, being blindsided and beaten with chairs while others kicked and punched him on the canvas.
The violence left several people injured, including Gorokhov’s trainer, who suffered a head injury and was taken for an MRI scan. Gorokhov shared an update from a nearby hospital, expressing his relief that everyone involved had survived the ordeal.
“We’re currently in a hospital in Turkey,” he said. “Ismail [trainer] has suffered a head injury and is having an MRI scan right now. I’ve come through it the least badly. The gloves helped protect me. There were probably about 80 people there attacking us.”
Gorokhov described the events following his victory, noting that the crowd had attacked them after their win. He criticized the behavior of the Turkish fans, stating, “But the Turks behaved very badly.” However, he expressed gratitude that no one had died during the incident.
Escaping the Situation
Gorokhov and his team were escorted by police and planned to leave the hotel immediately. He hinted at their next move, saying, “If anyone tries to pull a stunt, we’ll fly straight to Georgia. Then we’ll drive through Georgia overnight to Mineralnye Vody, and from there to Kaliningrad.”
The Russian fighter later confirmed that he and his team had arrived safely in Georgia. Despite the dramatic escape, the outcome of the fight was not what they had hoped for.
Result Overturned Due to the Mele
Following the melee, the result of the fight was overturned, and the victory was declared void. According to the rules, once the ropes have been breached and people from outside the ring enter, the result does not stand. This decision came as a blow to Gorokhov and his team, who had worked hard to secure the title.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the extent of the damage and identify those responsible for the violence. It is expected that suspensions and fines will follow, as the incident has drawn significant attention from boxing authorities.
Looking Ahead
While the immediate future for Gorokhov and his team remains uncertain, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential for chaos in high-stakes sporting events. As the investigation continues, the boxing community will be watching closely to see how the situation unfolds.
