Sophie Habboo: Unnumbed Emergency C-Section Willingness

Sophie Habboo Shares Her Experience of an Emergency C-Section

Sophie Habboo, a star from the show Made In Chelsea, has opened up about her experience during the birth of her son, Ziggy. The 31-year-old shared that she was willing to undergo an emergency C-section without being properly numbed, highlighting the intense and emotional nature of the event.

Sophie and her husband, Jamie Laing, who have gained a large following through their podcast NearlyWeds, have launched a new series called NewlyParents. The couple welcomed their first child, a son named Ziggy, in December and have been taking a break from their previous podcast since then. Their new podcast, which debuted on Monday, includes reflections on the birth of their son.

Sophie described the experience as ‘intense’, recounting how they had to have an emergency C-section. Jamie added that the situation was very quick, with everything happening within a short time frame. He mentioned that the medical team was already preparing for the procedure, with scrubs on and the hospital bed ready.

Sophie shared her feelings about the numbing process, describing it as the scariest part of the experience. She explained that the anaesthetist, Tara, kept checking if she was numb, using cold spray that she could feel. Despite multiple attempts to numb her, Sophie still felt sensations on her body, which made her anxious.

She recalled that the OBGYN, who was performing the procedure, insisted that they needed to proceed quickly. However, the numbing process took longer than expected, leading to frustration. Sophie even considered lying about feeling numb just to get the baby out safely. Eventually, the medical team decided to proceed, and she could feel the spray on her boob but not on her tummy.

Jamie expressed that the experience was the most emotional thing he had ever gone through in his life.

A Hilarious Return to the Podcast

Over the weekend, Sophie and Jamie entertained their fans with a humorous transformation into their aged selves to announce the return of their joint podcast. The couple donned grey wigs, detailed wrinkle prosthetics, grey hair, and specialised makeup to appear as elderly versions of themselves for a funny and wild advert.

The video features an elderly Jamie holding an equally elderly-looking Sophie’s hand as she lies in a hospital bed, surrounded by photos of their life together. While some of the images are real snapshots from their wedding day and the birth of their baby son Ziggy, there are also digitally created shots of the pair aged up, as well as images of them on the moon and one of a newspaper announcing Jamie as prime minister.

In the video, old Jamie tells his wife: ‘I still can’t believe we did that. What a ride we had. You know I’ve been thinking. There’s one thing that I really regret. That we didn’t bring the podcast back one more time.’

However, suddenly Sophie begins flat-lining, causing Jamie to panic and call for help. He begs: ‘No Sophie, wake up! Forget I mentioned the podcast, I didn’t mean it. Wake up please!’ She suddenly wakes up as her normal 31-year-old self in bed, breathing a sigh of relief as she says: ‘Oh my god I just had the worst nightmare, thank God it isn’t real.’

Upon looking at the bottom of her bed, she is shocked to see Jamie holding Ziggy and surrounded by an entire crew with cameras, lighting, and sound equipment, as he declares: ‘We’re back baby!’

The video had fans in stitches, including several of their famous fans, with Dani Dyer and Tasha Ghouri both commenting a string of laughing emojis. Sophie’s BFF Melissa Tattam wrote: ‘Omg I’m laughing but also made me cry lol.’

While fans couldn’t help but poke fun at the pair’s make-up, many quipped that Jamie resembled Dr. Seuss character, The Lorax, Ellen Degeneres, or the late Bruce Forsyth. They wrote: ‘All I can think about watching this is how much you all would have howled with laughter doing this makeup and pretending to be old. Welcome back ❤️’ and ‘Omg this is the best advert I’ve ever seen. Can you make the @johnlewis Christmas ad this year please?’ Some even said: ‘Wait. Why was this actually quite moving.’

NewlyParents with Sophie and Jamie Laing is available wherever you get your podcasts.
