Spurs’ Medical Team Criticised as ‘Clueless’ Over Simons’ ACL Injury Handling

Xavi Simons’ Injury Sparks Outrage Among Tottenham Fans

Tottenham Hotspur fans have been left deeply upset following the devastating injury to Xavi Simons, a key player for the club. The 23-year-old midfielder suffered a season-ending knee injury during a crucial match against Wolves, leaving many supporters questioning the actions of the medical team.

The injury occurred in the second half of Spurs’ 1-0 victory at Molineux when Simons fell awkwardly after planting his leg while chasing a ball. He was clearly in pain but attempted to continue playing before eventually dropping to the pitch. The medical staff quickly rushed to assist him, and he was taken off the field on a stretcher.

Simons was later wheeled around the pitch as he left the field, but it wasn’t until Monday morning that the extent of his injury was revealed. The club confirmed that he had torn his ACL, ending his season.

Before the official announcement, many fans were already upset with how the medical staff handled the situation. During the match, Simons was seen undergoing tests on the touchline, including some jumps to assess the severity of his injury. This sparked criticism from supporters who felt the medical team was not acting appropriately.

One angry fan took to social media to express their frustration, stating: “As witnessed yesterday yet again with @xavisimons, our medical team is utterly clueless. Asking him to run it off after being in obvious distress jeez.”

They continued by pointing out similar incidents involving other players, such as Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Radu Dragusin, who were subjected to the same process despite showing signs of distress. The fan added, “We now have 11 players out injured; it’s certainly no coincidence the club hierarchy, recruitment team, and medical team have failed us, handicapping any chance of progression, leaving us on the brink of relegation.”

A fellow supporter agreed with the sentiment, noting that the medical team had done the same to Lucas Bergvall and worsened his injury. Another fan questioned the decision to let Simons continue playing, saying, “I truly don’t understand why he continued. It was an insane decision. When it happened everyone could see how bad it was.”

Before the official statement, Simons took to social media to express his heartbreak over the injury. “They say life can be cruel and today it feels that way,” he wrote. “My season has come to an abrupt end and I’m just trying to process it. Honestly, I’m heartbroken. None of it makes sense.”

He added, “All I’ve wanted to do is fight for my team and now the ability to do that has been snatched away from me… along with the World Cup. Representing my country this summer… just gone. It’ll take time to find peace with this, but I’ll continue to be the best team-mate I can be. I have no doubt that together we’ll win this fight.”

Simons also faced a heated exchange with some Wolves fans as he was wheeled away from the pitch. He reportedly shouted “f*** you” at one particularly vocal supporter.

This injury came as a second blow for Tottenham, as Dominic Solanke had earlier limped off with a muscle problem. Simons had been a vital player for Roberto De Zerbi since his arrival at the club and scored a stunning goal in the 2-2 draw with Brighton last weekend.

His absence will be significant as Spurs battle for survival in the Premier League. The victory at Wolves was not enough to lift them out of the drop zone after Callum Wilson scored a stoppage-time winner for West Ham against Everton.

Spurs remain in 18th place, two points behind the Hammers with four games remaining.
