JoJo Siwa has publicly expressed her affection for Chris Hughes following a series of social media posts from her ex, marking the one-year anniversary of their breakup. The 22-year-old Dance Moms star and former Love Island contestant, 32, developed a close bond after being cast as housemates on the ITV reality show Celebrity Big Brother last year.
Initially, they insisted their relationship was purely platonic, but they soon confirmed they were dating after leaving the show. This development came after JoJo’s ex, Australian actor and content creator Kath Ebbs, revealed that she had been ‘humiliated’ after being dumped at the Celebrity Big Brother wrap party.
Since then, Kath has criticized what happened between JoJo and Chris during their time on the show, describing their cuddling and shared bed as ‘emotional cheating’. Although Kath has since moved on and is now engaged to footballer Tilly Lucas-Rodd, she has publicly called out her ex.
On Instagram Stories, Kath shared her original reaction to the breakup, writing: ‘Happy one year anniversary to her x.’ She then posted a photo of herself kissing Tilly, adding: ‘Sending hate to your cheating ex day.’ In a third post, she addressed online trolls, stating: ‘And to all those moles on the internet that trolled me for getting literally cheated on. Therapy bills getting mailed to you losers xx.’
While JoJo hasn’t directly responded to Kath’s posts, she has shown her love for Chris on social media. Posting a photo of Chris kissing their dog, JoJo declared she was ‘missing both my boys’. She later shared a picture of them embracing on a beach, writing: ‘Today marks 11 whole months. What a lucky live. Last “month” anniversary.’
Kath flew from Australia to London to attend the Celebrity Big Brother wrap party, only to leave alone the next day when JoJo ended their relationship. Kath described the moment in an emotional video, saying: ‘I don’t even know where to begin. I’m filming this in a complete state of shock… But I feel so numbed out right now and so disorientated that I feel like the only thing I have to do to place this situation is to finally address it after two weeks of sitting back watching certain things unfold and not being able to get any clarity from the person that it involved.’
She claimed she experienced ‘love bombing’, with JoJo telling her she was ‘the love of someone’s life’ and asking to marry her before the social experiment. Kath said she wanted to work through the issues but felt further humiliated in the process.
Kath had flown to the UK to ‘show up and support’ JoJo and ‘address my hurt feelings’, but the relationship ended regardless. After Kath accused JoJo of ‘emotional cheating’, the pop star denied the claims, calling them ‘out of anger and frustration’ and ‘not true’.
‘I think that was very uncool of them and I was very honest with them about that. There’re a hundred reasons why my breakup happened and I’ve talked those through with my ex and I’ve talked those through with the people in my life,’ JoJo told Us Weekly. ‘And so, I can confidently say I love Christopher so very much, but he had absolutely nothing to do with my breakup. There’s no muddy water there at all. Zero.’
Last month, JoJo told the Daily Mail that she was now on good terms with her ex. ‘They’re in a thriving relationship by the looks of it, which makes me very happy. And I’m thriving in my life and very happy. I think they’ve moved on wonderfully and I know I have,’ she said.
Earlier this month, JoJo and Chris celebrated their one-year anniversary with heartfelt messages on social media. JoJo wrote: ‘A year ago, today we said our first hello, our first hug, our first laugh… the beginning of so many. So forever grateful to the walls of that house.’ She added: ‘One year since walking into the Big Brother house, one year since my smile grew in a way I didn’t know possible. Today, I’m reminded of the moment that quietly changed everything. The only word to explain what happened on this day a year ago… Serendipity.’
Chris shared his own message: ‘One year ago today, I discovered your existence. The first thing I ever said to you was, “you’re very colourful”, and that colour still radiates every day! It’s flown by, feels like yesterday I got out the bb house, crazy universe.’
