Jeremy Doku celebrates Man City’s historic FA Cup quest

A Journey of Perseverance and Ambition

Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku has opened up about the incredible journey his team has undertaken, reaching a record fourth successive FA Cup final. The 23-year-old Belgian international admits that the magnitude of this achievement is still sinking in for him and his teammates.

Despite the team’s consistent success over the years, Doku remains personally motivated to secure the trophy. He has experienced the heartbreak of defeat in two previous Wembley finals, which fuels his determination to finally claim the cup.

Doku joined City in the summer of 2023, just after their FA Cup triumph over Manchester United. Since then, he has been on the losing side in a Wembley final against United in 2024 and again against Crystal Palace last year. However, he continues to show immense pride in the squad’s performance.

“I think we as a squad don’t realise what we are doing – fourth time in a row, it’s unbelievable. Fair play to everyone in the club. Every year being there after playing against good teams but still reaching the final every time,” Doku said.

The young forward played a crucial role in City’s 2-1 semi-final victory over Southampton on Saturday, scoring the equaliser. Now, he is fully focused on lifting the FA Cup.

“Now we want to win. I’ve not won it yet and it’s something I want to win. It’s something special,” he added.

City’s pursuit of the FA Cup comes at a pivotal moment, as they aim for a potential domestic treble. The final coincides with the critical closing stages of the Premier League title race. With five league matches remaining, City currently sits three points behind leaders Arsenal, who have played an additional game.

Doku remains confident about their chances in the league, asserting: “We know we have the squad to do it. It depends on us – it’s in our hands. We have to play well and focus on ourselves.”

City will face Chelsea in next month’s final after the Blues beat Leeds United 1-0 on Sunday. However, they must first focus on chasing down Arsenal in the title race.

Pep Guardiola’s team will return to Premier League action next Monday when they face Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
