Chennai Super Kings star misses IPL 2026, no replacement announced

Chennai Super Kings (CSK), former champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), are facing another setback as 28-year-old all-rounder Ramkrishna Ghosh has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. The player, who is based in Maharashtra, sustained a fracture to his right foot, as confirmed by the franchise on social media.

CSK shared the news on X and wrote: “Ramakrishna Ghosh sustained a fracture to his right foot during the game against MI at Chepauk. He will take no further part in IPL 2026. Get well soon, Rambo”.

Ghosh made his IPL debut in the game against the Mumbai Indians and delivered an impressive catch that saw Will Jacks dismissed. On the bowling front, the right-arm seamer bowled three overs and took the wicket of Suryakumar Yadav for 21, which was caught by Dewald Brevis.

The franchise is set to face Delhi Capitals next on Tuesday, and they have yet to announce a replacement following this latest injury setback.

Injury-riddled season for former champions

This season has proven to be extremely challenging for Chennai Super Kings in terms of injuries. Former captain MS Dhoni suffered a calf injury just before the campaign began. The 44-year-old has been practicing in the nets but has not yet played this season. Nathan Ellis was already ruled out of the season due to a hamstring injury.

Left-arm seamer Khaleel Ahmed also had his season cut short after suffering a quadricep injury. This was followed by Ayush Mhatre being sidelined due to a tear in his left hamstring. Dewald Brevis had also missed a few games earlier in the season due to a side strain.

Race for playoff spots heating up

A win by Gujrat Titans (GT) over Punjab Kings has created a significant gap between the top five teams and the rest of the league. Titans are now joint-second in the table with SRH, RCB, and RR after their third consecutive win.

Both the Capitals and Super Kings have played nine games so far this season and have eight points each. The match on Tuesday night will be crucial for both sides: a victory will keep their playoff hopes alive, while a loss could jeopardize their chances.

Key players and their impact

Several key players have contributed to the team’s performance this season. Despite the setbacks, CSK continues to rely on its experienced squad to navigate through the challenges. The upcoming match against Delhi Capitals is expected to be a critical test for the team.

Strategic moves and team dynamics

With multiple injuries affecting the team, CSK may need to make strategic adjustments to maintain their position in the league. The franchise might look to bring in new talent or rotate existing players to manage the workload effectively. This could also provide opportunities for younger players to step up and gain valuable experience.

Looking ahead

As the race for the playoffs intensifies, every match becomes more crucial for the teams involved. CSK will need to regroup and focus on their upcoming games to ensure they remain in contention. The team’s ability to adapt and overcome these challenges will be a key factor in determining their success in the tournament.

The importance of teamwork and resilience

Injuries are an inevitable part of sports, but it is the team’s response that defines their journey. CSK has shown resilience in the past, and this season will be no different. The support from fans and the determination of the players will play a vital role in helping the team push forward.

With the upcoming matches, the team will need to stay focused and united to achieve their goals. The road ahead may be tough, but with the right mindset and strategy, CSK can still make a strong push for the playoffs.
