Dr Hannah Fry Joins The Celebrity Traitors
Dr Hannah Fry, known as a ‘brainbox’ and professor of public understanding of mathematics at the University of Cambridge, has reportedly joined the upcoming series of The Celebrity Traitors. This spin-off version of The Traitors follows the same format as the civilian series, with a group of famous faces trying to determine who is faithful and who is a traitor to win up to £100,000 for their chosen charity.
The show, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, premiered on BBC One on October 8, 2025, and concluded a month later. In November last year, the BBC confirmed the show’s future, revealing that a second series would be in the pipeline.
Fans are eagerly waiting to find out who will be participating in the next season, and now it has been revealed that Dr Fry is one of the celebrities set to appear on screen. A source told a publication:
Dr Fry very much ticks the ‘academic’ box filled last year on the show by Dr David Olusoga, who of course made it to the final. She isn’t just a brainbox, however, she has a great personality and already has a loyal band of followers thanks to her BBC shows. It’s fair to say there are going to be some very clever people taking part this year.

A BBC spokesperson declined to comment on the speculation but mentioned that details for The Celebrity Traitors series 2 will be announced in due course.
Hannah could be joined by other notable names such as Amol Rajan, Richard E Grant, Hugh Bonneville, and David Mitchell, who have all been rumoured to take part in the upcoming series.
A Versatile Career in Television
This won’t be the first time Hannah has appeared on television. She has hosted several shows, including AI Confidential with Hannah Fry, The Secret Genius of Modern Life, The Infinite Explorer with Hannah Fry, Unvaccinated, Making Sense of Cancer with Hannah Fry, and Contagion! The BBC Four Pandemic. She has also participated in Have I Got News For You and Taskmasters New Year’s Treat.
In addition to her work in television, Hannah has voiced Professor Jeanie in the children’s show Hey Duggee. Her diverse career showcases her versatility and appeal across different genres and audiences.
The Success of The Celebrity Traitors
The first series of The Celebrity Traitors was won by comedian Alan Carr. He was joined by singer Cat Burns, actress Celia Imrie, singer Charlotte Church, broadcaster Clare Balding, historian David Olusoga, former England rugby player Joe Marler, comedian Joe Wilkinson, TV presenter Jonathan Ross, and Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway.
Other participants included comedian Lucy Beaumont, actor Mark Bonnar, funnyman Nick Mohammed, content creator Niko Omilana, singer Paloma Faith, actress Ruth Codd, writer Sir Stephen Fry, soap star Tameka Empson, and former Olympic diving champion Tom Daley.
Fans will be pleased to know that host Claudia Winkleman will return for the new series, welcoming a fresh group of contestants to the game of trust and treachery. Brand new episodes of the spin-off series Celebrity Traitors: Uncloaked will also return to BBC Two and BBC Sounds.
Economic Impact and Future Prospects
The BBC’s head of entertainment, Kalpna Patel-Knight, said:
In 2026 the doors of the castle will be opened again to welcome celebrity players to the game to see who can charm, who can scheme and ultimately who can survive in series two which promises to be just as unmissable as the first. Plus with Uncloaked returning and today’s news of the positive contribution The Traitors brand has made to Scotland’s economy, there is plenty to celebrate.
The director of BBC Scotland added:
The Traitors is an immense TV success story and it’s fantastic to have multiple versions of it filmed in Scotland. We welcome and celebrate it. This report highlights the many ways that Scotland is seeing a direct economic benefit from The Traitors filming here and, working together with our partners, we will use this success to promote sustainable growth within Scotland’s creative industry.
Record-Breaking Viewership
The debut episode of The Celebrity Traitors attracted a massive 14.8 million viewers, making it the biggest unscripted title for the BBC since 2021. The finale also broke records, averaging 11 million viewers throughout its broadcast—the biggest overnight audience for the BBC, surpassing its own record-breaking Gavin & Stacey Christmas special finale last year.
The finale also had 1.9 million viewers on BBC iPlayer, the highest live-viewing figure for any entertainment show broadcast on the streaming site.
Economic Boost for Scotland
The popularity of the series has significantly benefited the Scottish economy, where the UK series is filmed. According to the new Economic Impact Report, the Traitors franchise, across the UK, US, and Celebrity editions, has generated an estimated £21.8 million to the Scottish economy. The report included contributions from Visit Scotland and Screen Scotland.
