Phoebe Dynevor’s Accent Shift Sparks Confusion
Phoebe Dynevor, the 31-year-old actress known for her role in the popular Netflix series Bridgerton, recently left fans puzzled with an unexpected change in her accent during a US TV interview. The star, who is recognized for her clear British accent in the regency drama, appeared on Live with Kelly and Mark and seemed to adopt a slight American tone when discussing her mother.
During the interview, Dynevor spoke about her mother, Sally, who has been a prominent figure on Coronation Street. She mentioned growing up on sets where she would visit her mother while she was working on the soap opera. However, as the conversation continued, her accent shifted, leading some viewers to question her portrayal of an American accent.

Fans and critics online were quick to notice the change, with many commenting on social media platforms. One user wrote: “What has happened to Phoebe’s accent…….” Another added, “I know you’re giving me your best American accent, but I can still tell that you’re British.” Some even suggested that Dynevor needed to work on her American accent.
This incident comes after Dynevor revealed why she hasn’t returned to Bridgerton since its second season and whether she plans to make a comeback. Since its debut in 2020, the show has become a global phenomenon, with Dynevor appearing in the first two seasons before stepping away.
In an interview with Collider, Dynevor addressed her absence from the series. She explained, “When the first season came out, they didn’t know what they needed to put in play. We were the ones that got away, in a certain way.” She added, “I can only speak for myself; I would always come back if I was asked. I have not received a call. When I get that call, I will be there if I can.”

Bridgerton, based on Julia Quinn’s novel of the same name, has seen four successful seasons since its premiere. The latest season aired earlier this year in January.
Sally, Dynevor’s mother, often expresses her pride for her daughter on social media. She is not the only one in the family to follow in her footsteps, as her other daughter, Hattie, 22, joined the cast of Waterloo Road in June 2023. Sally shares daughter Phoebe and Hattie with her husband, actor turned scriptwriter Tim. The couple also has a 28-year-old son, Samuel, who does not work in the entertainment industry.
