Spice Girls Plan Hologram Show for 30th Anniversary

The Spice Girls and the Hologram Hype

The Spice Girls, one of the most iconic girl groups of the 90s, are reportedly considering a unique way to celebrate their 30th anniversary. Instead of a traditional reunion tour, they might be looking into an Abba-style hologram show, according to recent reports.

A New Direction for the Spice Girls

Originally, the band members—Mel B, Geri Horner, Mel C, Emma Bunton, and Victoria Beckham—were in talks for a series of concerts to mark three decades since the release of their debut single, “Wannabe.” However, it was reported last month that the group couldn’t come to an agreement on a reunion. Now, instead, they could be following in the footsteps of ABBA’s Voyage, which launched in 2022 and turned the band into digital avatars.

Victoria Beckham recently shared her thoughts on SiriusXM radio, saying, “I think it would be a great idea. The principle of it would be great. We were talking about it at dinner, but we’ll see.”

A source told the publication: “Simon is desperate to have one last hurrah with the Spice Girls and this is his latest idea. He was the person who came up with the original idea for Abba and their digital show and he thinks this model could work perfectly for the group. Simon knows this plan would mean the band would be making money in their sleep and it would open up their music to a whole new generation.”

A History of Success

Victoria last performed with the band during the 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony and before that, she joined the band on their 2007-08 world tour. Geri left the band in 1998 in the middle of their world tour and on Mel B’s birthday. Her departure hit headlines across the world, and the group went on hiatus two years later.

The Spice Girls shot to fame in 1996 when their debut single “Wannabe” reached number one in 37 countries. The girl group reached the top of the UK charts nine times and had two number one albums. When Geri left the band, she launched a solo career and enjoyed four number one singles in the UK.

Reunion Plans Scrapped

In March, it was reported that plans for a reunion tour for the anniversary had been scrapped. This came a few weeks after it was claimed that a Netflix project to celebrate the anniversary had also been cancelled, with sources suggesting Geri had been dragging her heels on whether to sign on.

Mel C soon after confirmed that there was no reunion in the works, as she told The Smallzy Show on KIIS Radio: “No, there is no reunion. We are communicating all the time. We want to do something – who knows when. But I still feel very optimistic and I keep my fingers crossed that you will see the Spice Girls together at some point in the future.”

What’s Next?

So far, only a collectible coin from the Royal Mint has been announced to mark the anniversary. Daily Mail contacted a representative for The Spice Girls for comment.
