Kylie Minogue’s Cancer Journey Revealed in New Doc Trailer

Kylie Minogue has shared her personal journey through breast cancer in the trailer for her upcoming Netflix documentary. In the preview, she describes feeling “removed” from her body and being “so scared of what was ahead of me.” The three-part series, produced by the same team behind the Beckham documentary, delves into the Australian singer’s path to becoming one of pop’s most iconic figures.

The documentary, titled KYLIE, will showcase a collection of archival material, including home movies, personal photographs, and new interviews with Minogue. It aims to highlight how she “reshaped pop and became one of music’s most enduring icons.” Netflix describes the programme as an exploration of how Minogue has faced public scrutiny, personal loss, and illness with resilience and grace, earning admiration beyond her fanbase.

The trailer offers a glimpse into Minogue’s career spanning decades, from her role as Charlene in Neighbours to behind-the-scenes footage of her music videos and photoshoots. It also includes moments with her then-boyfriend, the late INXS frontman Michael Hutchence, and her performance at Glastonbury in 2019.

Both Kylie and her sister, Dannii Minogue, reflect on the impact of her cancer battle. Kylie shares, “I felt removed from my body, I was so scared of what was ahead of me.” Dannii adds, “We didn’t know if she’s ever gonna be well again. I just wanted to be with my sister.”

Minogue was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer in May 2005 when she was 36. She underwent a lumpectomy and chemotherapy in Paris and was declared cancer-free in 2006.

News coverage of her diagnosis led to a significant rise in mammogram bookings, known as the “Kylie effect.” The documentary trailer also features her collaborator and friend Nick Cave, who says: “Kylie is this force. It’s all outward, giving.”

The series will debut on Netflix on 20 May and include insights from Australian actor and singer Jason Donovan and English record producer Pete Waterman. Directed by Emmy and Bafta award-winning filmmaker Michael Harte, the production is handled by John Battsek’s Ventureland.
