Supermodel Accuses Washington Post of False Met Gala Claim

Supermodel Anok Yai Denies Claims of Met Gala Dress Mishap

Supermodel Anok Yai has strongly denied allegations that she ripped a hole in her Met Gala dress to urinate in 2024. The controversy began after a Washington Post article suggested that the Sudanese-American model was involved in an embarrassing bathroom incident at the event.

The article, titled “How do stars pee at the Met Gala? An investigation,” explored how celebrities manage bathroom breaks while wearing elaborate couture outfits. It quoted stylist Mickey Freeman, who described a wardrobe malfunction experienced by one of his clients. Freeman mentioned a client who wore a sheer mesh jumpsuit adorned with Swarovski crystals and pearls, which was sewn into the bodysuit. He claimed the client had to tear a hole in the outfit to use the bathroom.

Freeman did not reveal the identity of the client, but the article linked the description to Anok Yai based on Google searches showing she wore a similar outfit in 2024. This led to a swift response from Yai, who took to Instagram to address the claims.

“I usually stay quiet and keep to myself,” Yai wrote. “But how dare you misalign my character and imply that I ripped my outfit and peed on myself during the Met Gala of 2024! Fact check next time! Are you crazy?!”

In a follow-up post, Yai directly tagged the Washington Post, challenging them to provide evidence if they had any photos of her outfit being ripped or urine dripping down her leg. She also emphasized that she had no intention of engaging in such behavior.

Mickey Freeman quickly came to Yai’s defense, clarifying that she was never the mystery celebrity mentioned in his anecdote. He stated on Instagram: “Nope! It was not Queen @anokyai.” He later called the controversy “a hilarious non-story” and expressed his admiration for Yai.

“Absolutely adore her,” he wrote. “She was never part of the story, which is why I found it so absurd when I saw her name!”

Freeman further clarified that he had never worked with Yai in any capacity, reinforcing the idea that the story was not about her.

Anok Yai made history in 2018 as the first Black model to open a Prada runway show since Naomi Campbell in 1997. Her career has been marked by groundbreaking achievements and a strong presence in the fashion industry.

Recently, Yai attended the 2026 Met Gala in a custom Balenciaga gown inspired by the weeping statues of Sicily. Her appearance once again highlighted her status as a leading figure in the world of high fashion.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Maura Judkis, the Washington Post writer, for further comments on the matter. However, no official response has been released yet.

This incident has sparked a broader conversation about the responsibility of journalists to verify their sources and the potential impact of unverified claims on public figures. As the debate continues, Yai remains steadfast in defending her reputation and integrity.
