Pep Guardiola’s ‘Come on you Irons’ call to West Ham as pressure mounts on Arsenal

Pep Guardiola Remains Confident in Manchester City’s Title Challenge

Pep Guardiola has made it clear that Manchester City will not let up in their pursuit of the Premier League title, even as they face a tough challenge from Arsenal. Following a 3-0 victory over Brentford, the gap between the two teams has been reduced to just two points, setting the stage for a thrilling conclusion to the season.

Jeremy Doku, Erling Haaland, and Omar Marmoush were the key contributors in the win, with Doku scoring an important goal that highlighted his growing influence on the team. The result has brought City closer to Arsenal, who are set to face West Ham United on Sunday. Guardiola, known for his passionate approach, was seen shouting “Come on you Irons” during his media appearances, showing his support for the opposition as he prepares to watch Mikel Arteta’s side in action.

“We will do our job,” Guardiola said. “We will do our job and wait. It is not in our hands. We didn’t do it perfectly with Everton.”

The manager reflected on the recent match against Everton, where City found themselves 3-1 down but managed to come back. He acknowledged that the second half was not as strong as it could have been, but praised the team’s resilience. “It happened last season many times, now we’re more solid but we still give away. That’s football, it’s how you react. I’m pleased for the way we have done it.”

Guardiola added that the team is focused on maintaining their momentum. “It’s simple, in two weeks the season will be over, and we have to, in every moment, play with the spirit I have seen. This is a team that defines.”

A Season Full of Challenges and Opportunities

Guardiola expressed his love for the competitive nature of the league, stating, “I love it. I love to be here again. To finish second again as a minimum – I love it.” He admitted that last season was difficult, particularly with the struggle to qualify for the Champions League. However, he is optimistic about the current campaign, especially with the Carabao Cup already secured and the FA Cup final at Wembley next week.

“I can’t think of title race, or Arsenal, it’s just about trying to help Man City win the game,” said Haaland. He praised Doku’s performance, highlighting the player’s hard work and development. “Look at his last three goals, incredible, I’m super happy for him. He’s been working hard to improve his shooting and passes and you can see how much he’s developed – hard and smart work pays off.”

Haaland also emphasized the importance of focusing on the immediate matches rather than getting distracted by the title race. “Everton was a disappointment as we didn’t win – we can’t think about them or Brentford now, we have four more finals.”

Controversial Referee Decision

Brentford manager Keith Andrews voiced his frustration after the match, particularly regarding a missed penalty decision. “The comment I heard (from the referee) was not enough contact,” he said. “For someone who is as quick as Kevin Schade, I don’t know how much contact it needs. Not with how quick Kev is. It’s disappointing.”

Andrews criticized the referee’s decision, adding, “In what world he (chooses to) go down is beyond me. I’m struggling to comprehend it.” He acknowledged the difficulty of the officials’ job, given the speed of the game, but felt the decision was unfair.

The loss left Brentford four points behind Bournemouth in sixth place, further emphasizing the tight competition in the league.

Looking Ahead

As the season reaches its climax, both Manchester City and Arsenal are expected to push hard for the title. Guardiola remains confident in his team’s ability to perform under pressure, while Haaland and Doku continue to show their value on the pitch.

With the FA Cup final and other crucial matches on the horizon, the focus for City is clear: to maintain their momentum and finish the season strongly. Whether they can close the gap on Arsenal remains to be seen, but one thing is certain — the battle for the Premier League title is far from over.
