Sunia Turuva has become the fourth high-profile player to commit to the Wests Tigers for the duration of the 2030 season. This development follows Jarome Luai’s decision to join the PNG Chiefs, which initially raised concerns about potential departures from the club.
Turuva signed a three-year contract extension on Tuesday, marking another significant step in the Tigers’ efforts to retain key talent. This comes shortly after fullback Jahream Bula extended his contract last week and just under two weeks after Terrell and Taylan May also committed to the club.

There were initial worries that Luai’s close friends and teammates, including Turuva, might follow him to Port Moresby in pursuit of the tax-free incentives associated with the Chiefs’ entry into the competition in 2028. Turuva was originally set to be out of contract at the end of 2027.
However, Turuva clarified that the Chiefs were never an option for him. “It wasn’t something that interested me,” he said. “I love the Tigers. My last 18 months have been filled with both highs and lows, and I want to help turn this club around. When my manager told me they wanted to re-sign me, I was all in.”
A two-time premiership winner with Penrith, Turuva expressed his appreciation for the time he spent under coach Benji Marshall. He also highlighted the importance of playing alongside his cousin, co-captain Api Koroisau, who was the one who first encouraged him to join the Tigers.
The energetic winger, known as ‘Tito,’ shared his sentiments about being part of Marshall’s vision for the club. “It’s been special to be part of Benji’s vision here at the club, and to play my role in what we’re building.”

He continued: “The connection and culture we’ve created within this group has been a major part of our growth. I love playing alongside my brothers and can’t wait for what’s ahead. I’m grateful to Benji and the club for the faith they’ve shown in me, and to my family for their support away from football. I just want to keep repaying them on the field each week.”
Coach Benji Marshall praised Turuva’s contributions to the team. “Tito brings so much to our team. He’s a huge character who adds a lot of energy to everything we do. He has a great work ethic and is a big driver of our standards.
“Tito is a leader within our group, not just through his voice but through his professionalism, competitiveness, and team-first mentality.”
