Injury Concerns for Ben White and England
Arsenal and the England national team are facing a potential major setback after right-back Ben White suffered an injury during a match against West Ham on Sunday afternoon. The 28-year-old was forced to leave the field around half an hour into the game at the London Stadium following a collision with Crysencio Summerville.
White clashed knees with Summerville while going in for a 50-50 challenge, and he immediately needed assistance from medical staff as he hobbled away, clutching his head in apparent distress. The incident has raised concerns about the severity of his injury, as he looked visibly uncomfortable and was unable to continue playing.
Manager Mikel Arteta made a tactical change by moving Declan Rice to right-back and bringing on Martin Zubimendi in place of White. This decision left some fans puzzled, as Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapie were left on the bench. However, Rice has previously played in that position, which may have influenced Arteta’s choice.
Arsenal will now need to assess how long White will be sidelined for, but the early signs suggest a significant absence. Summerville, on the other hand, was able to continue playing without any issues.
This injury could prove to be a big blow for Arsenal, especially considering their upcoming fixtures. The Gunners have matches against Burnley and Crystal Palace in the Premier League, followed by a crucial Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on May 30 in Budapest.

White’s Struggles with Injuries
Ben White has had a challenging season so far, dealing with multiple injuries that have hampered his consistency. He missed a large portion of last season due to a knee injury and subsequent surgery. Despite this, he has managed to feature in all five of Arsenal’s most recent Premier League fixtures, starting four of them.
His return to the starting line-up has been a positive sign, but the latest injury raises questions about his availability for key matches. With the Champions League final approaching, Arsenal will need all their available players, making White’s situation all the more concerning.
Impact on World Cup Hopes
The injury also casts doubt on White’s chances of being selected for the World Cup. He was reintegrated into the England squad in March after a three-year absence. White left the England camp during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar for personal reasons, which led to his exclusion from the team.
However, under manager Thomas Tuchel, White has started to regain his place in the national team. Tuchel brought him off the bench against Uruguay and started him in the match against Japan. White scored in the game against Uruguay but faced criticism from fans, who booed him during the match. He later conceded a penalty in the same game.
Tuchel acknowledged that White needs to rebuild trust with some of his teammates. “I think everyone deserves a second chance,” he said ahead of the two fixtures. “I don’t know exactly what happened. I was not 100% interested in that as I wanted to open a new page.”
“He straight away, and without hesitation, said he would love that and he was desperate to come back. I think it’s necessary he clears the air with team-mates and I think he will when players come back, who were in the World Cup with him.”
