Ishan Kishan Honoured with Rs 1 Crore for T20 World Cup Triumph
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary recently celebrated the achievements of cricketer Ishan Kishan, who played a pivotal role in India’s victory at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. As a gesture of recognition, the Bihar government awarded him a cash prize of Rs 1 crore for his contributions to the team’s success.
Kishan, who hails from Patna, took a break from his IPL commitments to return to the state capital and meet with the Chief Minister on Friday. The felicitation event was attended by members of his family, highlighting the significance of this moment for both the cricketer and his loved ones.
During the ceremony, the Chief Minister praised Kishan, referring to him as the “Son of Patna” and encouraging him to continue representing Bihar with pride on the global stage. He also extended his best wishes for Kishan’s future career, emphasizing the importance of his continued success.
“Ishan Kishan—a brilliant batsman, a ‘Son of Bihar,’ and a member of the victorious Indian team at the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup—has been honoured with Rs 1 crore for his significant contribution. I extend my heartfelt best wishes for his successful cricketing career,” said Samrat Choudhary.
A Star Performer in the Tournament
Ishan Kishan emerged as one of the standout players during the T20 World Cup 2026. In nine matches, he scored 317 runs across nine innings, maintaining an average of 35.22 and a strike rate of 193. His performance earned him the fourth-highest run-scorer status in the tournament.
One of his most memorable performances came against Pakistan, where he scored a remarkable 77 runs. His efforts were instrumental in securing crucial victories for the Indian team. In the final match against New Zealand, Kishan delivered a vital innings of 54 runs, hitting four fours and four sixes, which helped India post a formidable total of 250 runs.
A Journey of Perseverance and Success
Born in Patna, Kishan’s journey to international cricket has been marked by challenges and perseverance. Due to issues within the Bihar Cricket Association, he moved to Jharkhand to further his career. Despite these obstacles, he rose to prominence as the captain of India’s Under-19 World Cup squad in 2016.
His domestic career has been filled with impressive performances, including a historic 273-run innings in the Ranji Trophy. He made a name for himself in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with standout seasons in 2020, 2022, and 2025.
Although he faced setbacks in 2023, including losing his BCCI contract, Kishan staged a strong comeback in the 2025–26 domestic season. His resilience and determination have solidified his position as one of India’s most promising cricketers.
