The Best Player in the AFL Right Now
Thanks to the AFL Player Ratings, fans have a way to determine who they believe is the best player in the league right now. This fan-voted system uses an Elo rating algorithm, similar to those used in global sports rankings, to produce live and real-time results by pitting players against each other based on their position.
Honorable Mentions
Max Gawn, the captain of Melbourne, deserves special recognition. Despite not being in the top 10, he has maintained an impressive win rate of 96.9 percent, which is the highest in the league.
Zak Butters – A Rising Star
Zak Butters, a superstar for the Power, has made it into the top 10. He has won more than 80 percent of match-ups, accumulating a total of 2138 points. His consistency places him higher than most in the competition, and there’s a possibility he could be in contention for the Brownlow Medal given the lack of depth at Port Adelaide. His standing has improved since April.

Harris Andrews, the co-captain of the Lions, rarely loses a contest on the field. He has a win rate of 90.21 percent, resulting in 2170.2 ratings points. However, he has slipped one position from last month.

Kysaiah Pickett has been one of the big movers into the top 10. His form has coincided with Melbourne’s rise to finals contention. The Demons’ livewire has won the least amount of match-ups in the AFL Player Ratings, going at a rate of 76.49 percent. However, his high ratings points of 2188.9 suggest he has won significant contests against highly rated players.

Ben King, the star Sun, continues to hit the scoreboard and is leading the Coleman Medal, which has worked in his favor in the AFL Player Ratings. He has stormed into the top 10 after sitting 19th in April, earning 2190.1 points from 84.74 percent of wins.

Isaac Heeney might be flying under the radar this season. The AFL Player Ratings has him winning nine of 10 match-ups (90.8 percent) for a worthy 2219.1 ratings points.

However, given some of his match-ups, he didn’t earn enough ratings points (2262.8) to claim the top mantle.
