Family unites around Kai Trump as mom Vanessa’s cancer battle steals spotlight from graduation joy

Family Support for Kai Trump Amid Mother’s Health Challenges

Kai Trump, the 19-year-old eldest grandchild of the U.S. president, has been receiving support from her family as her mother, Vanessa Trump, faces a challenging health diagnosis. The family was in New York City, celebrating Kai’s graduation from the Benjamin School, a prestigious college preparatory school in South Florida where annual tuition exceeds $41,600.

On Wednesday, Kai shared an image on her Instagram Stories featuring her and her mother, both dressed in their graduation attire. She captioned the photo with a heartfelt message: “The strongest person I know.” In addition to the photo, she posted a video showing her getting ready for the big day, with her mother commenting, “I can’t believe she’s graduating today.”

Exclusive photos obtained by the Daily Mail showed Kai meeting her grandmother, Bonnie Haydon, and aunt, Veronika Haydon, at a celebrity hotspot called The Mark in New York City for dinner. Dressed casually in a black short-sleeve shirt, jeans, and sneakers, Kai was seen embracing her aunt, who bears a striking resemblance to her mother, before they sat down to enjoy their meal.

However, Vanessa, the ex-wife of Donald Trump’s eldest son, Don Jr., was notably absent from the pictures. Hours earlier, she had revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and was working closely with doctors on a treatment plan.

Vanessa shared the news in her own Instagram post, stating, “I want to share a personal health update. I’ve recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. While this isn’t news anyone expects, I’m working closely with my medical team on a treatment plan.” She expressed gratitude for the procedure she underwent and emphasized her focus on recovery while surrounded by family and loved ones.

“I am staying focused and hopeful while surrounded by the love and support of my family, my kids, and those closest to me. Thank you for your kindness and support, it truly means more than I can express,” she added. She also requested privacy during this difficult time.

Ivanka Trump, another member of the family, was among the first to publicly express support for her mother-in-law. She commented on Vanessa’s Instagram post, writing, “Praying for your continued strength and a swift recovery. Love you mama.”

A Relationship Under Scrutiny

Vanessa’s announcement came as Tiger Woods, the golf legend, completed an intensive rehabilitation program in Zurich. Woods had faced legal issues after being charged with driving under the influence following a car crash near his home in Jupiter, Florida, on March 27. Police found prescription opioid pills in his possession at the time of the arrest, which he had been using to manage chronic injury pain. Woods has pleaded not guilty to the DUI charge.

Despite the legal troubles, Woods left rehab early to attend Kai’s graduation ceremony. According to a source quoted by People, the relationship between Vanessa and Woods remains strong. “Vanessa and Tiger are in love, still serious, and happy to see each other,” the insider said. They also noted that Vanessa is eager to help Woods continue his recovery and move past any public scandals.

The source added that Woods took his trip to rehab seriously and is focused on continuing his recovery and moving beyond the legal issues. “He is in good spirits and also can’t wait to put the legal issues to rest,” they said.

There had been speculation about the state of the relationship, but Vanessa quickly dismissed the rumors by expressing her support for Woods on Instagram after his arrest. A week later, she posted a loving photo of them together and wrote, “Love you.”

Family Dynamics and Future Plans

Vanessa has five children with Don Jr.: Kai, 19; Donald, 17; Tristan, 14; Spencer, 13; and Chloe, 11. The couple married at the Trump family’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach in 2005 and separated in 2018. Although they were estranged for nearly a year, their divorce was amicable, and they have been seen together multiple times on holidays and out with their children.

Don Jr. is now set to remarry to socialite Bettina Anderson over Memorial Day weekend. He previously had a very public relationship with Kimberly Guilfoyle before becoming engaged to Anderson. The engagement was confirmed in December 2025 when Don Jr. proposed to Anderson with an eight-carat diamond ring. This followed exclusive Daily Mail photos of the couple holding hands outside a restaurant in the ritzy Florida beach town, confirming their relationship.
