Marvel’s big reunion: Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman team up for sports doc on Disney+

A New Adventure for Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, two of Hollywood’s most beloved stars, are teaming up once again—but this time, it’s not for a superhero movie or a comedy. Instead, the pair is stepping into the world of sports with a new documentary series on Disney+. Known for their playful banter and viral social media antics, the duo has become a fan favorite over the years. Their latest collaboration, however, takes them in an entirely different direction.

The documentary will focus on their roles as co-owners of the Australian sailing team, Bonds Flying Roos, as they compete in the SailGP Championship. This marks their first project together since the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, which was a massive hit and showcased their chemistry on screen.

The SailGP Experience

SailGP is a high-speed racing event where national teams compete in identical 50-foot catamarans that can reach speeds of up to 100 km/h. The competition is held in various locations around the world, with each race taking place in near-shore circuits. The event is known for its intense action, dramatic moments, and the sheer excitement of watching these powerful boats race at breakneck speeds.

Reynolds and Jackman have expressed their excitement about the project, joking that they hope to see pirates along the way. “This is our first collaboration since Deadpool & Wolverine and we once again anticipate action, comedy, heart but with a lot more water. And (fingers crossed) pirates,” they said in a statement.

The Rolex SailGP Championship offers a $12.8 million prize to the winning team, making it one of the most lucrative events in the sailing world. The competition features some of the best sailors and teams from around the globe, all vying for the top spot.

Behind the Scenes: The Creative Team

Ryan Reynolds has been deeply involved in the production of the documentary, working closely with his creative team. He has also been a regular presence in Disney documentaries, particularly through his ownership of Wrexham FC, a Welsh soccer team. For the past five seasons, cameras have followed the team as part of the Welcome to Wrexham series.

Rob Mac, co-chairman of Wrexham and executive producer of Welcome to Wrexham, will also be producing the sailing documentary series under the More Better Productions banner. The series is being produced by Reynolds’ Maximum Effort production company, which signed a first-look agreement with 20th Television last year.

Brent Hodge is the director and showrunner of the untitled documentary series for Disney+. The project is an Australian original created by Maximum Effort and Eureka Productions in collaboration with SailGP and the BONDS Flying Roos team.

Where to Watch

The new Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman collaboration will be available exclusively on Disney+ in other countries and on Disney+ and Hulu in the United States. Fans can look forward to an exciting mix of action, humor, and adventure as the duo explores the world of competitive sailing.

Final Thoughts

With their unique chemistry and ability to bring humor to any situation, Reynolds and Jackman are sure to make this documentary a must-watch. Whether you’re a fan of sailing, sports, or just enjoy their playful dynamic, this new project promises to deliver something fresh and entertaining.
