A Tribute to Owain Rhys Davies

The performing arts world is in mourning following the sudden passing of Welsh actor Owain Rhys Davies, who died at the age of 44. Known for his role as Agent Wilson in Twin Peaks: The Return, Owain left a lasting legacy through his work on stage and screen.

Owain’s brother, Rhodri, shared the news on social media, expressing deep sorrow over the loss. He wrote: “It is with profound sadness that my father and I share the news that my brother, Owain, has passed away.” The statement highlighted the widespread impact Owain had on those around him, noting that “the reach of Owain’s love, friendship, and generosity was vast.”

Rhodri also mentioned that there are still unanswered questions about the circumstances of Owain’s death, but added that “our understanding at this stage is that Owain passed suddenly, naturally, and peacefully.” He emphasized how deeply loved Owain was, stating that “the outpouring of messages we have received over the past few days has been deeply moving and a testament to the impact he had on so many lives.”



Owain was described by many as someone who lit up every room he entered. His close friend and fellow actor Hayley Tamaddon shared her devastation online, saying: “It is heartbreak to hear that my beautiful friend has passed away.” She reflected on their long friendship, particularly memories from their time together in Los Angeles. “Sleep well my love. My heart goes out to his friends, and family Rhodri and Conway.”

Another of Owain’s friends, Downton Abbey star Joanne Froggatt, expressed her grief, calling him “more than a friend, he was joy and life and talent and kindness and fun and intelligence.” She added: “He was everything and my brain can’t compute that we don’t get to hug him again.”

Beyond his role in Twin Peaks, Owain appeared in several other notable projects. He starred in the Disney film Alice Through the Looking Glass and the 2019 British horror movie A Serial Killer’s Guide To Live. He also had a number of roles in award-winning West End productions, including Mamma Mia!, The Wizard of Oz, By Jeeves, and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum at the Royal National Theatre.

The Welsh National Theatre paid tribute to Owain, describing him as “a remarkable talent whose work enriched Welsh theatre and screen.” They noted that “his contribution to the performing arts will be remembered by audiences, colleagues, and friends alike.” The statement concluded with a heartfelt message: “Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Owain’s family, friends, loved ones, and all those who had the privilege of working alongside him.”

Owain’s passing has left a void in the entertainment industry, with many expressing their grief and sharing fond memories of the actor. As tributes pour in from fans and colleagues, it is clear that Owain’s legacy will continue to live on through his work and the impact he had on those who knew him.
