Royal swimsuit designer unveils 2026 summer trends

A Legacy of Elegance and Timeless Style

Melissa Odabash, a name synonymous with luxury and sophistication in the world of swimwear, has carved out a remarkable career that spans several decades. Born in New Jersey, she has become a household name among fashion enthusiasts and celebrities alike. Her designs have graced the bodies of some of the most iconic figures in entertainment, including Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Odabash recently shared her thoughts with the Daily Mail during Miami Swim Week, reflecting on the enduring appeal of her creations. “Because there’s so much more choice out there, the fact that they still choose [my designs] to go on their vacations, it’s an honor,” she said. At 56, her passion for design remains as vibrant as ever.

One of her most loyal clients is none other than a member of the British royal family. Kate Middleton was spotted wearing one of Odabash’s bikinis while enjoying a luxurious yacht trip with Prince William. The outfit, in her favorite color—white—exemplifies the designer’s preference for chic and timeless pieces.

In addition to her celebrity clientele, Odabash has also shared her insights into the upcoming trends for 2026. She highlighted the growing popularity of matching sets, which she believes will be a summer staple. “They’re convenient, especially in Europe where restaurants are on the beaches,” she explained. “People like to quickly wear something matching to their swimwear.”

When it comes to color, “Riviera white” has emerged as a signature hue for Odabash. This shade, she says, perfectly captures the mood of her latest collection, where texture takes center stage. The use of crochet in sheer, rich chocolate browns and deep navy tones adds a unique touch to her designs.

Her team described the dresses as ranging from floor-length, body-skimming silhouettes with elegant transparency to shorter, figure-hugging styles that balance sensuality with refinement. Bandeau tops are also making a comeback, adding to the allure of her collections.

Odabash encourages fashion enthusiasts to embrace a “toned down” aesthetic. “It’s more about flats, not high heels. Maxi dresses but with a flat,” she advised. To complete the summer ensemble, she recommends accessorizing with a “cute little beach bag” made of straw and cat-eye sunglasses, which are “very on trend.”

“It’s all about classic, timeless, effortless [style],” she concluded.

Odabash launched her business in 1999 after working with major fashion houses like Valentino, Prada, and Fendi. During this time, she noticed a gap in the market for high-quality swimwear. Her vision and dedication have since led to her recognition as a Designer Icon.

In 2021, the renowned designer was appointed an honorary Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE), a prestigious honor awarded by Queen Elizabeth II. Describing the moment to the Daily Mail, she said, “That was the biggest honor I’ve ever received.” She humorously added, “I had to try and explain to my American family what an MBE was.”

When asked about advice for up-and-coming designers, Odabash emphasized the importance of focusing on one area and mastering it. “Stick to one thing and get really good… so that people know that when they need that one thing, they go to you,” she said.

Her journey from a New Jersey native to a celebrated designer is a testament to her talent, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to quality and elegance.
