As millions of Australians take the opportunity to relax and enjoy the King’s Birthday long weekend, many will also be planning their last-minute shopping trips. Whether it’s picking up groceries, grabbing a few drinks, or doing some DIY projects, knowing which stores will be open is essential.
For those living in Victoria, New South Wales (NSW), Tasmania, and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), most shops will remain open throughout the long weekend. However, residents in South Australia and the Northern Territory may find that some stores are closed. Queensland and Western Australia are not observing the King’s Birthday this weekend, choosing instead to celebrate it later in the year.
Here’s a detailed guide on what will be open during the long weekend:
Woolworths
Most Woolworths supermarkets across NSW, Victoria, the ACT, and Tasmania will be open as usual. Some stores may operate with reduced trading hours, so it’s advisable to check the local store’s schedule. In South Australia and the Northern Territory, most Woolworths stores will be closed, although this can vary depending on the location.

Coles
Coles supermarkets will be open every day during normal trading hours across NSW, Victoria, the ACT, and Tasmania. In the Northern Territory, Coles stores will have reduced trading hours. In South Australia, only specific stores in Port Lincoln, Port Pirie, Berri, Port Augusta, Mount Barker, Adelaide Rundle Place, Whyalla, Murray Bridge Green, Mount Gambier, and Victor Harbor will remain open.

Aldi
Aldi stores across the country will operate based on the state or territory. In NSW and the ACT, all Aldi stores will be open, though customers should check their local store for exact trading hours. Dan Murphy’s / BWS
For those looking to pick up a quick drink, Dan Murphy’s and BWS will be open. However, trading hours may vary. Liquorland
Liquorland shops will remain open in NSW, Victoria, Tasmania, and Western Australia. In South Australia, most stores will be open except for Noarlunga, Park Holme, Greenacres, Marion, Gawler Green, Elizabeth, Parafield Gardens, St Agnes, West Lakes, Paralowie, Port Adelaide, Churchill, Athelstone, and Munno Para. In the Northern Territory, all Liquorland stores except Alice Springs will be open.

Bunnings

Most Kmart stores across the country will be open during the long weekend. Stores in Queensland, NSW, Western Australia, Victoria, Tasmania, and the ACT will operate as usual. Stores with normal business hours will be open from 8am to 9pm. Some 24-hour stores, such as Figtree, Casula, Penrith, Mt Druitt, Blacktown, Sylvania, Belmont, and Campbellfield, will also remain open.
Kmart stores in South Australia will be closed on the King’s Birthday, with the exception of Rundle Mall, Mt Barker, Port Lincoln, Port Pirie, and Whyalla, which will operate under reduced hours.
