Manchester United is reportedly eyeing two Newcastle United stars as they look to strengthen their squad this summer. While Sandro Tonali has been the main focus, the Red Devils are also considering other players from the Magpies.
The club is expected to make significant investments during the transfer window following their return to the Champions League. Under the guidance of Michael Carrick, Manchester United finished third in the Premier League and will be competing in Europe’s top competition next season. This marks a big shift for the team, as they did not participate in European competitions last season and faced early exits in domestic cup matches. With Carrick taking charge in January, the focus was solely on the league, and the team performed well. However, the upcoming season will be more challenging, requiring improvements in several areas.
Central midfield and left-back are two positions that need strengthening. Newcastle United players have caught the attention of Manchester United’s scouts in both roles. According to The Athletic, Lewis Hall is one of the targets at left-back, where he could provide support for Luke Shaw.

21-year-old Hall joined Newcastle from Chelsea in the summer of 2023, initially on loan but the move became permanent a year later. He made 46 appearances last season and was unfortunate to miss out on Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad. Luke Shaw played every Premier League game for Manchester United last season, but there is little depth behind him at left-back, making it essential to bring in a new player.
However, the report suggests that Newcastle are reluctant to let Hall go and would not consider a sale for less than £50m. This price tag may deter Manchester United, who are focusing more on central midfield this summer.

Tonali is one of the central midfielders being considered by Manchester United, alongside others like Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, and Ederson from Atalanta. However, the asking price for Tonali is likely to be a challenge, with the Italy international expected to cost closer to £100m rather than £50m.
Newcastle is not looking to sell any more of their key players after Anthony Gordon signed for Barcelona in a deal worth just under £70m. Additionally, Arsenal has also shown interest in Tonali, who is under contract at St James’ Park until 2029, with an option for an extra year.
As the transfer window approaches, all eyes will be on how Manchester United will navigate these challenges and which players they will target to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
