Real Madrid’s Ambitious Plans for the Future
Real Madrid, one of the most prestigious football clubs in the world, is preparing for a significant shift in its management and squad structure. With the upcoming presidential elections set to take place on Sunday, June 7, the club’s future direction is under intense scrutiny. Florentino Perez, the current president, is seeking re-election against his challenger, Enrique Riquelme, who is just 37 years old. This marks the first time since 2006 that there will be a choice on the ballot paper for the next president of the club.
Perez, who is 79 years old, has been re-elected unopposed in previous elections, including 2013, 2017, 2021, and 2025. However, this year’s election is expected to be more competitive. If he wins, it is anticipated that he will continue to play a key role in shaping the club’s strategy, particularly in the transfer market.
A New Era Under Mourinho?
One of the most notable aspects of Real Madrid’s plans is the potential return of Jose Mourinho as head coach. Although not officially announced yet, a three-year contract is already in place for the 63-year-old manager to take charge once Perez is formally installed as president again.
Mourinho’s primary focus is on rebuilding the defense. He is looking for a dominant centre back, cover at right-back, and a left-back to challenge Alvaro Carreras. The club has already secured Antonio Rudiger on a new contract, but Mourinho sees Ibrahima Konate as an opportunist signing due to his age and physical presence.
Konate, a 27-year-old French international, was previously considered by Real Madrid, but the club pulled away from talks at the end of last year after signing Trent Alexander-Arnold. However, the breakdown of his contract talks with Liverpool has opened the door for a free transfer move.
Strategic Moves in the Transfer Market
Perez is keen to deliver on Mourinho’s demands, even if wages could prove costly. By securing Konate, the club can allocate resources set aside for transfer fees to other key positions. In addition to strengthening the defense, Mourinho also aims to bolster the midfield and potentially shake up the attack, depending on who wants to leave during his first team briefings.
Tottenham’s Pedro Porro is another target under consideration, although it is expected that he will remain with the club. Alternatively, Denzel Dumfries of Inter Milan could be an option if needed.
Coaching Staff and Team Vision
In addition to player signings, Mourinho is looking to bring in five trusted coaching staff alongside fitness coach Antonio Pintus and goalkeeper coach Luis Llopis. This move is part of his broader vision to create a cohesive and effective team structure.

The Road Ahead
Real Madrid’s approximately 95,000 registered members will decide who will lead the club for the next four years. This election is crucial, as it will determine the direction of one of the world’s most commercially powerful clubs. If Perez succeeds, sources within the club suggest he will push for agreement on a four-year deal for Konate, further solidifying the team’s defensive line.
As the election approaches, all eyes are on the outcome and the potential changes it could bring to Real Madrid’s future. Whether it is through player acquisitions, coaching appointments, or strategic decisions, the club is poised for an exciting new chapter.
