Deadloch Season Two: Turn Up the Volume

The cast of the acclaimed crime comedy series Deadloch are radiating an infectious excitement as they return for a second season, and they’re not even attempting to play it cool.

“I’m incredibly excited – the kind of over-the-top, ‘loser’ level of excited,” shares Kate Box, who embodies the sharp Detective Dulcie Collins. She perfectly encapsulates the palpable buzz surrounding the new instalment. After what felt like an eternity between filming and the initial release, Madeleine Sami, the force behind Detective Eddie Redcliffe, admits the return feels somewhat dreamlike. “You almost forget about it… and then to come back and celebrate it is genuinely fun,” she muses.

For Luke Hemsworth, who injects a jolt of energy into the series as the rugged crocodile wrangler Jason Wade, the experience has been nothing short of exhilarating. “I feel so incredibly blessed to be a part of this cast. It’s just so damn good,” he exclaims. “When everyone else is performing at such a high level, it naturally pushes you to match their brilliance.”

This palpable energy wasn’t confined to interviews; it permeated the entire set. While the cast readily acknowledge that the shooting schedule could be gruelling, with Kate pointing out, “It got really hot,” the overall atmosphere was precisely the kind of vibrant, collaborative spirit fans would hope for.

“It really is fun,” Luke states simply, a sentiment echoed by Madeleine, who describes being involved in the show as feeling like “something cool.”

A significant part of Deadloch’s unique appeal lies in its masterful ability to deconstruct and reimagine the traditional crime genre, infusing it with a fresh, subversive sensibility.

“Every single character is essentially its own meticulously crafted package of subversion,” Madeleine elaborates. “It manages to be both hilarious and genuinely thrilling simultaneously.” This delicate balancing act, she confesses, was something the cast didn’t take for granted, especially in the early stages.

“You’re never entirely sure how the tone is going to land with the audience,” Kate admits. However, with the resounding success of the first season under their belts, a newfound confidence is driving them into this second round. “Now, you just hit the ground running in your thongs and go for it.”

Season two also introduces a dynamic ensemble of new characters and shifts the narrative to a completely different locale, a change that has been enthusiastically embraced. “Pure joy,” is how Kate describes the experience of working with the fresh faces. “They arrive on set fully formed and ready to impress.”

Madeleine wholeheartedly agrees, adding, “They absolutely brought their A-game.”

At the core of the series, however, remains the ever-evolving and complex relationship between its central duo, Eddie and Dulcie. “They’ve trauma-bonded for life,” Madeleine quips, highlighting the unique crucible that has forged their connection. Kate elaborates that this has cultivated a deep “respect… and an appreciation of each other’s madness.”

But, as is the Deadloch way, a certain undercurrent of tension is never far away. “They’re yin and yang,” Madeleine observes, “but there’s always that lingering possibility that they could drift apart again.”

So, what exactly can audiences expect from this latest chapter? Luke sums it up with characteristic flair: “Just turn the volume up.”

With a promise of even bigger twists, more intricate character dynamics, and the same signature edge that propelled it to stardom, Deadloch season two is gearing up to deliver an unforgettable viewing experience.
