Courtney Love urges Dave Grohl to end their bitter feud

Courtney Love has publicly addressed Dave Grohl, the drummer of Nirvana, for not informing his fans that the two are now on good terms after a long-standing feud. The frontwoman of Hole, who was married to Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain for two years before his passing, had previously taken legal action against the band’s remaining members in 1997. Her lawsuit aimed to dissolve the limited liability company formed to manage Nirvana’s business affairs.

While Grohl and Krist Novoselic, the band’s bassist, filed a counter-suit against Love, they eventually reached a settlement in 2002. This allowed for the release of a best-of compilation of Nirvana’s work.

Speaking on The Magnificent Others with Billy Corgan podcast, Love revealed that she and Grohl have been on good terms for over a decade. She urged Grohl to inform his fans about their reconciliation, saying, “Like, come out with it and just say we’re cool. Like, come out with it. Right?” during an episode on 1 April. She added, “Be man enough to man up.”

Love suggested that Grohl might be hesitant to acknowledge their friendship due to fear of losing the support of straight men who look up to him. “We’re cool, but you won’t say it because you’re afraid you’ll lose your audience?” she questioned. “Dave. It would really behoove me if the straight white males that are your base, if you will, stop picking on me. Millennials in particular. Gen Z is not picking on me anymore.”

Billy Corgan, the Smashing Pumpkins singer, confirmed that he had spent time with both Love and Grohl together and noted that Grohl had no issues with her. The Independent has reached out to Grohl for further comment.

Grohl joined Nirvana in 1990, shortly after Love and Cobain began their relationship. They married in 1992 and had a daughter, Frances Bean Cobain. Cobain passed away by suicide on 5 April 1994 at the age of 27.

Despite their legal disputes in the 1990s, both Grohl and Love have shared that they reconciled when Nirvana was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. In 2024, Grohl told Rolling Stone: “Early on in the evening I just tapped her on the shoulder. She turned around and I just said, ‘Hey.’ She said, ‘Hey.’ Then we gave each other a big hug. I said, ‘How are you?’ She goes, ‘Good, how are you?’ I said, ‘All right.’ And she said, ‘Let’s do this. Let’s rock this tonight.’”

He added that the two are “family” and “love each other, no matter what.”
