Singh surpasses Russell in KKR’s catch record

Rinku Singh Makes History with KKR Fielding Milestone

Rinku Singh has etched his name into the Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) history books by becoming the franchise’s leading catch-taker in the Indian Premier League (IPL). This achievement came during a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens, where the vice-captain surpassed Andre Russell’s long-standing record. Rinku secured two crucial catches in the innings, bringing his total to 41 catches from 61 matches for the Kolkata-based team.

The milestone was reached in two distinct moments. First, Rinku took a catch off Ishan Kishan, bowled by Blessing Muzarabani. Later, he made a remarkable boundary-line catch to dismiss Aniket Verma, this time off Anukul Roy. The second catch was particularly significant as it pushed Rinku past Russell, who had previously held the record with 40 catches across 133 appearances for KKR between 2013 and 2025.

A Rapid Rise in the Fielding Charts

With 41 catches, Rinku now stands at the top of KKR’s all-time outfield catching list, despite having played significantly fewer matches than some of the names below him. Andre Russell is now second with 40 catches, while Sunil Narine remains third with 36 catches from 191 matches. Manoj Tiwary follows with 30 catches from 54 games, showcasing how quickly Rinku has climbed the ranks.

This achievement highlights Rinku’s growing importance to the team beyond just his batting skills. In just 61 IPL matches for KKR, his fielding statistics have surpassed those of players who spent over a decade with the franchise. This milestone adds an ironic twist to a team known for its seasoned match-winners.

Broader Context: Rinku’s Record in the IPL

While Rinku now leads the KKR list, the overall IPL benchmark for most catches still belongs to Virat Kohli. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru star has taken 118 catches in 268 matches, also leading the record for most catches for a single franchise in the tournament.

Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina share the second spot on the all-time IPL list with 109 catches each, while Kieron Pollard follows with 103 catches for Mumbai Indians. Across the league’s history, only five players have crossed the 100-catch mark as outfielders, placing Rinku’s latest franchise record in a broader fielding context as one of KKR’s most efficient hands in the competition.

A New Era for KKR Fielding

Rinku’s achievements are not just a personal triumph but also a reflection of the evolving dynamics within KKR. His ability to contribute both with the bat and in the field has made him a vital asset for the team. As he continues to build on this milestone, fans can expect more thrilling performances from the vice-captain in the coming seasons.

With each match, Rinku is redefining what it means to be a key player in the KKR squad. His dedication to improving his fielding skills has not only elevated his own game but has also set a new standard for future players. As he moves forward, the focus will be on how he continues to impact the team and maintain his position as one of the best fielders in the IPL.
