A Season of Contrast and Reflection
This year’s season of Married at First Sight (MAFS) has been one of the most compelling in recent memory. It has managed to stand out in a way that few seasons have before, offering a unique blend of drama, emotion, and social commentary.
For years, the show has often been dominated by men who are seen as problematic or unappealing. From Tims to Pauls, Harrisons to Jacks, the cast has frequently featured individuals whose behavior can be difficult to watch. However, this season has taken a different approach. With only a few exceptions, the men on this season have largely been kind, empathetic, and generally well-adjusted. The exception is Tyson, an intruder groom who seems more like a fleeting presence than a real threat.
While some of the men may have had questionable opinions, none have fully embraced the role of a villain. This contrast makes the season feel refreshingly different from previous years.
Women in the Spotlight: A Mixed Bag
On the other hand, the women on this season have not always been easy to root for. Two brides, Gia and Bec, have dominated much of the screen time, and their behavior has been particularly challenging to watch. Their use of faux-feminist rhetoric, constant bullying of other women, and belittlement of their partners have made them difficult to support.
Many viewers have expressed frustration with the dynamic on the show, with comments like “Why are most of these men being disrespected this season? I don’t get it, I feel bad for them.” These sentiments reflect a broader concern about the treatment of the men on the show.
The issue isn’t just limited to Gia and Bec. Other women such as Mel, Brook, Juliette, and Julia have also contributed to the toxic environment, creating a revolving door of negativity and conflict.
Alissa: A Disappointing Addition
Fans had hoped that Alissa would be a positive addition to the season, but her recent behavior has been disappointing. She has been seen mocking, gaslighting, and talking over her groom, David. Her actions have left many viewers feeling let down.
Despite the challenges presented by the other women, there have been two standout brides who have brought a refreshing energy to the season: Stella and Rachel.
Stella: A Beacon of Strength
Stella was one of the early highlights of the season. As a Lithuanian-Australian bride, she found her match in Filip, a Croatian-Australian groom. Since their wedding, the couple has shown remarkable growth, even going as far as saying “I love you” to each other.
However, the early weeks were not without their challenges. Stella stood up for Luke when Mel was complaining about him in a group session, which led to Brook and Gia turning against her. The situation escalated further during a dinner party where she faced what could only be described as high school-style bullying from the other women.

Despite the insults, Stella remained calm and composed. She said, “Do you notice how much time you have been talking, and I haven’t said a word? This is not worth my breath or energy.” Her resilience and dignity have made her a standout figure on the show.

Rachel: Patience and Compassion
Rachel has been a slower-burning presence on the show, much like her relationship with Steven. While it took time for things to develop, Rachel has consistently shown strength and compassion. During a couples’ retreat, she clashed with Bec over a comment about her and Steven’s intimacy. Despite Bec’s cruel taunts, Rachel remained calm and empathetic.
In her relationship, Rachel has been patient and kind, allowing Steven’s feelings to catch up with hers while treating him with respect and care.

At the commitment ceremony, Rachel and Stella were moved to tears as they watched their friends break down on the experts’ couch. Their emotional intelligence and kindness have made them two of the most admirable figures on the show.

A Season of Contrasts
Despite the positive contributions of Stella and Rachel, the majority of the season has been dominated by the drama surrounding Bec, Gia, and Alissa. Their behavior has continued to be the central storyline, with tensions rising ahead of the final dinner party.
It remains unclear whether Gia and Alissa will attend the event, as both have threatened to leave after unflattering videos of them flirting with alternative grooms were played to Scott and David.
A Necessary Contrast
This season has offered a necessary contrast to the usual dynamics on MAFS. While it is not advocating for more problematic men, it has highlighted the importance of positive role models. The behavior of women like Gia and Bec has shed light on toxic masculinity, encouraging their partners to suppress their emotions and avoid vulnerability.
These women have not only perpetuated harmful stereotypes but have also punished their partners by using their vulnerabilities against them. This dynamic has been a valuable insight into the complexities of modern relationships.
Final Thoughts
While the season has been filled with drama and controversy, it has also provided a platform for meaningful conversations about gender roles and relationships. The presence of Stella and Rachel has reminded viewers of the importance of kindness, empathy, and respect.
As the season draws to a close, it’s clear that this year’s MAFS has been a unique and thought-provoking experience. It has challenged viewers to think critically about the behaviors and attitudes displayed on the show, and to consider what kind of role models we want to see in our media.
