Bob’s Burgers star Eugene Mirman has been seriously injured after his car caught fire in a crash. The voice actor, 51, was rescued from the vehicle at a New Hampshire toll in America on March 31 and transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
Mirman is known for voicing Gene Belcher on Bob’s Burgers, and has appeared in numerous TV shows and films. New Hampshire State Police were called to a single-vehicle crash into a toll plaza in the town of Bedford. According to a press release, the victim was identified as 51-year-old Mirman.
A representative for the actor told People: ‘Eugene was in a very scary car accident. He wants to thank the bystanders, state police, first responders and hospital staff who saved him.’
‘He is grateful to be on the mend. At this time, we kindly ask for privacy for Eugene and his family as he focuses on recovering from his injuries.’
Another statement from New Hampshire State Police also stated: ‘While units were responding, a veteran State Trooper assigned to Governor Kelly Ayotte’s security detail came upon the crash, saw that the vehicle was actively on fire, and observed the driver was still inside. The driver was then pulled from the burning car through a window and brought to safety. Governor Ayotte, along with other witnesses at the scene, provided assistance to the Trooper.’
Colonel Mark B Hall of New Hampshire State Police described the rescue as ‘heroic’, adding: ‘Without hesitation, they put themselves in danger to render aid to someone who was in need of it.’
No charges have been filed in connection with the crash, and the investigation is ongoing, the police said.
Mirman, who was born in Moscow and raised in Massachusetts, has starred as Gene Belcher, the creative middle child of Bob and Linda Belcher, on the Fox series Bob’s Burgers since the show began in 2011.
Appearing in more than 300 episodes of the animated sitcom, he also featured in its feature film adaptation.
Outside of the show, he has played Eugene in HBO’s Flight of the Conchords during its two-season run from 2007 to 2009 and has appeared in roles across television and animation, including Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Apple & Onion and Dislocated.
