Sky Sports Host Apologizes After Haaland’s On-Air Swear Again

Haaland’s Post-Match Language Sparks Reminder from Sky Sports

Erling Haaland, the Manchester City forward, found himself in a minor controversy after using strong language during a post-match interview with Sky Sports following a crucial victory over Arsenal. The incident occurred after Haaland scored the winning goal in a 2-1 win at the Etihad Stadium, which brought City within three points of their title rivals with a game in hand.

The match was a pivotal moment in the Premier League title race, and Haaland’s performance once again proved to be decisive. However, it wasn’t just his goal that caught attention. During an interview with reporter Patrick Davison, Haaland used an expletive while discussing a moment involving teammate Bernardo Silva.

Haaland said: “I remember that cross, I told him after when he headed it out, I told him you were like ‘f***ing Cannavaro.’”

Davison immediately intervened, reminding Haaland that swearing was not appropriate for the broadcast. Haaland responded by saying, “Come on, we are all swearing a little bit in our lives.” The presenter, Dave Jones, later apologised to viewers for the language used during the interview.

This is not the first time Haaland has been caught using strong language on live TV. In 2024, he was warned after saying, “S*** happens” following a win over Leicester. He also swore twice during his debut against West Ham and on another occasion when City won the league in 2023.

Broadcast regulators, such as Ofcom, have strict guidelines about offensive language. They state that the most offensive language cannot be aired before 9pm. This means that any inappropriate words used during daytime broadcasts could result in complaints or penalties.

Despite the controversy, Haaland delivered a standout performance in the match. He faced off against Gabriel, a long-standing rival, and managed to outplay him to score the winning goal. The two players had a physical confrontation in the second half, with some fans suggesting Gabriel was fortunate not to receive a red card after pushing his head forward.

Haaland addressed the incident, stating: “I think it’s always like this. A lot of fighting and these kind of things. Of course, I scored the goal. I won that battle in the decisive moment, the cross was perfect. It was a great goal. In the end, we win.”

He added: “If I fell on the floor there, which I will not do unless someone really attacks me, then it would maybe be a red card. I’m not sure, I haven’t seen the situation. It is what it is, I will not fall on the floor. For me, I don’t know why he comes up to my face.”

The match highlighted the intensity of the title race, with City continuing to challenge Arsenal for the top spot. As the season progresses, fans can expect more high-stakes encounters, and Haaland’s role in those games will remain critical. His performances, both on and off the pitch, continue to draw attention, making him one of the most talked-about players in English football.
