DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – The Bee Adaptive and Inclusive Club at St. Ambrose University recently held one of four basketball fundraisers as part of their second annual event. This initiative is aimed at supporting the Scott County Special Olympics teams by raising essential funds.
The event brought together a variety of activities to engage attendees and encourage participation. Participants had the opportunity to take part in raffle baskets, chuck-a-duck games, and half-court shot competitions. These activities not only provided entertainment but also contributed to the overall goal of raising money for the Special Olympics.
Kaylen Abrahamsen, the director of the Bee Adaptive and Inclusive Club, emphasized the importance of community support for the athletes. She shared her sentiments, saying:
“I really hope our athletes, you know, just realize that we have a whole community that supports them and uplifts them. We wanna bring them joy because they bring so much joy into our lives. So I think it’s just crucial to know, like, we stand by you, we’re here for you, and we’re gonna be your advocate.”
This message highlights the deep connection between the club and the athletes they support. It reflects a commitment to ensuring that the athletes feel valued and encouraged throughout their journey.
Special Olympics athletes require approximately $35,000 to cover the costs associated with attending the state games. This includes expenses related to equipment, transportation, and other necessary items. Organizers of the fundraiser have set a goal of raising at least $5,000 to help meet these financial needs.
The fundraising efforts are crucial for enabling the athletes to participate in the state games and showcase their talents. By contributing to this cause, individuals and organizations can make a meaningful difference in the lives of these athletes.
