Notre Dame Baseball Faces Setback in ACC Standings
Notre Dame baseball is currently experiencing a challenging period in the ACC standings, as they were swept by the Florida State Seminoles this week. The Irish team struggled to maintain their position in the conference, and the latest loss further highlights the difficulties they are facing.
A Tough Series Finale Against No. 8 Florida State
In the series finale on Sunday afternoon, Notre Dame fell to No. 8 Florida State with a final score of 6-4. The game took place in Tallahassee, Florida, and proved to be a tough challenge for the Irish squad.
Dylan Singleton started strong, retiring the side in order in the bottom of the first inning using just 12 pitches. Mark Quatrani also made a significant play by cutting down a runner attempting to steal third. Singleton continued his impressive performance by facing the minimum number of batters in the second inning.
The Irish managed to get on the board in the third inning when Drew Berkland hit a double to left field. Mark Quatrani followed up with a two-out double to right-center, driving in Berkland for the first run of the game.
Despite a runner being on third base with one out, Singleton and the Irish defense prevented Florida State from scoring. Singleton struck out the second batter of the inning before inducing a fly ball that ended the threat.
Momentum Shifts in the Fourth Inning
In the fourth inning, Jayce Lee reached base with an infield single. Brandon Logan used a sacrifice bunt to move Lee to third, and Dylan Passo drove him in with a single to left field, giving the Irish a 2-0 lead.
However, Florida State quickly responded in the bottom of the fourth inning. A single and a home run helped them tie the game at 2-2. Oisin Lee came in to shut down any further scoring chances by inducing a groundout to end the inning.
Irish Take the Lead in the Fifth Inning
The Irish regained the lead in the top of the fifth inning. Bino Watters drew a lead-off walk, and Brandon Logan followed with a two-out walk. Dylan Passo reached on a dropped third strike, loading the bases. Jamie Zee then laced a single to center field, driving in both Watters and Logan to put the Irish ahead 4-2.
Oisin Lee and Noah Rooney each made key plays to strand runners on first base in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively, helping the Irish maintain their 4-2 advantage.
Florida State Makes a Late Push
Florida State staged a late rally in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring four runs to take a 6-4 lead. Will Jaisle retired the side in order in the bottom of the eighth inning, but the Irish were unable to capitalize on a Bino Watters single in the ninth, resulting in a 6-4 loss.
Key Performances from the Irish
Mark Quatrani had a solid game, going 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Drew Berkland added a double and scored a run, while Bino Watters and Jayce Lee each contributed a hit and a run. Watters also walked three times, showing his ability to work the count.
Jamie Zee drove in two runs with a hit, and Dylan Passo collected a hit and an RBI. Brandon Logan scored once in the game.
