Ex-SSG Kashim Eyes SDP Guber Bid

A Vision for Bauchi State: Ibrahim Kashim’s Gubernatorial Aspirations

Former Secretary to the Bauchi State Government (SSG), Barrister Ibrahim Kashim Mohammed, has publicly declared his intention to secure the gubernatorial nomination of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the 2027 general elections. This announcement was made during an interaction with journalists in Bauchi on Sunday, where he emphasized his commitment to creating a better future for the state.

Kashim stated that his motivation stems from a deep desire to improve the lives of the people of Bauchi. He envisioned a state where essential services like water supply are consistent, schools are well-maintained with students and teachers, and health facilities operate efficiently. His aspirations are clear: to build a Bauchi where every citizen benefits from effective governance.

Following his resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Kashim informed the current Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, that he would be seeking the support of the people of Bauchi to serve as their governor. He now identifies as a card-carrying member of the SDP, expressing hope to lead the state in 2027. He believes that these efforts will ultimately help him gain the mandate of the people.

According to Kashim, the current administration has achieved notable successes in some areas but has also made mistakes. He acknowledged that the administration’s tenure will end on May 29, 2027, and that someone must take over from that date. This transition is what he and his team are striving to achieve.

Kashim highlighted the challenges facing Bauchi State, including the high number of out-of-school children and its status as the subregion with the highest poverty index in Nigeria. Despite these issues, he believes that Bauchi has the potential to thrive due to its abundant natural resources, which can be harnessed for economic growth.

During his tenure as SSG, Kashim contributed significantly to governance, ensuring that Bauchi State could stand among its peers in all aspects. He outlined a 10-point agenda that will guide his administration if elected. This agenda focuses on a people-oriented approach aimed at reducing poverty and improving the quality of life for citizens.

Kashim is confident that he possesses the necessary qualities to secure the party ticket and win the gubernatorial election. He believes that the people of Bauchi are politically mature and vote based on their convictions rather than political affiliations. He noted that Bauchi is unique in that it does not have a former governor serving as a senator, emphasizing that the people prioritize the individual over the party.

He assured that his administration, if established, will adopt a developmental style similar to that of the late Lateef Kayode Jakande during his tenure as Governor of Lagos State in the Second Republic. This approach is tailored to the rural nature of Bauchi State.

Key Points of Kashim’s Vision

  • Improved Infrastructure: A focus on reliable water supply, well-maintained schools, and functional health facilities.
  • Economic Growth: Harnessing natural resources to create revenue-generating ventures.
  • Education and Poverty Reduction: Addressing the high number of out-of-school children and reducing poverty through a people-oriented administration.
  • Political Maturity: Emphasizing that the people of Bauchi vote based on personal merit rather than party loyalty.

Kashim is currently building structures across the state to strengthen the SDP’s presence. He expressed confidence that the party will eventually take over the state, driven by the support of the people. His vision for Bauchi State is one of progress, prosperity, and sustainable development.
