The agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed that the victim was an adult male who died at the scene. LASTMA officials responded quickly to a distress call, securing the accident site and removing the deceased from the carriageway.

“LASTMA swiftly responded to a tragic road incident that resulted in the death of a roadside hawker at Okokomaiko, alongside a separate collision at Ogudu inward Toll Gate, where seven injured passengers were successfully rescued,” the statement said.

The crash involving the Lexus Jeep led to the untimely death of the hawker. LASTMA officials secured the accident scene and evacuated the remains of the deceased from the carriageway. Police officers from the Ketu Division later transported the body to the Badagry Mortuary for further procedures.

Another Collision at Ogudu Inward Toll Gate

In a separate incident, LASTMA reported that seven passengers were injured in a collision at the Ogudu inward toll gate. The crash involved a Mazda commercial bus with registration number MUS 231 YA and a Lexus Jeep with registration number FKJ 23 HL.

LASTMA officials, along with operatives from the Ogudu Police Division, intervened promptly at the scene. The presence of security operatives from the Ogudu Police Division strengthened the emergency response, while officials from the Lagos State Ambulance Service efficiently evacuated the injured victims to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment.

All vehicles involved in both accidents have been handed over to the police for further investigation.

Urging Safe Driving Practices

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, urged motorists to strictly adhere to traffic regulations and maintain safe speeds. He also advised drivers to exercise caution, particularly during late-night hours when visibility and alertness may be reduced.

Bakare-Oki reiterated the agency’s commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring effective traffic management across the state.
