SDA East Ghana: Christians Challenged to Live Their Faith

A Call for Practical Christianity

In Accra on April 19, a significant message was delivered by the President of the South East Ghana Union Mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Chaplain Colonel (Rtd) Peter Nyarko Duodu urged Christians to ensure that the teachings of Christ are reflected in their actions. He emphasized that Christianity should not remain confined to faith alone but should manifest in visible actions that benefit society.

This call to action came during the inaugural Quinquennial Constituency Meeting of the East Ghana Conference of the Church, held at Akyem Kukurantumi in the Eastern Region. The event brought together delegates from various parts of the region to discuss important issues affecting the church and its members.

Strengthening Social Support Systems

Chaplain Duodu tasked churches with strengthening social support systems by providing education, healthcare assistance, and relief to the vulnerable. He highlighted the importance of these initiatives in creating a more equitable society. By focusing on these areas, churches can play a crucial role in addressing the challenges faced by communities.

Moreover, he encouraged Christians to be ambassadors of peace and stewards of the environment. This is especially relevant given the growing concerns about pollution and social instability. By taking responsibility for their surroundings and promoting harmony, Christians can contribute positively to their communities.

True and Practical Christianity

During his address, Chaplain Duodu spoke about what he termed “True and Practical Christianity.” He stressed that faith must correspond with moral actions because practical Christianity has the power to transform society. This transformation begins with genuine concern for one another, which can help diminish loneliness and build resilient communities.

He also emphasized that when leaders and citizens are guided by moral values rooted in Christian principles, society becomes more just and trustworthy. This message resonated with the attendees, who recognized the importance of aligning their actions with their beliefs.

Key Issues Discussed

The four-day meeting covered a range of topics, including national peace, environmental pollution, church growth, and prosperity. Delegates from 20 Adventist Districts participated in discussions aimed at finding solutions to these pressing issues. The event provided a platform for sharing ideas and strategies to strengthen the church’s impact on both local and national levels.

Leadership Transition

At the conclusion of the meeting, Pastor Dr. Ernest Ofosu, Chaplain of the Seventh-day Adventist College of Education at Asokore-Koforidua, was elected as the new President of the East Ghana Conference for the next five years. He succeeds Pastor Dr. Samuel Alooh, who has served as President for the past 13 years.

The transition of leadership is seen as an opportunity to steer the affairs of the Conference with renewed focus on spiritual growth, community impact, and effective engagement with national development issues. The new leadership is expected to bring fresh perspectives and energy to the conference.

Conclusion

The Quinquennial Constituency Meeting marked a significant milestone for the East Ghana Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. With a strong emphasis on practical Christianity, social responsibility, and community engagement, the event set the stage for future initiatives that will continue to make a positive difference in the lives of many.
