York City Star Allegedly Strikes Rival Supporter During Pitch Invasion
During a crucial National League title decider between York City and Rochdale, an incident involving a York City star and a rival supporter sparked controversy. The match, held at the Crown Oil Arena, was pivotal in determining which team would secure automatic promotion to the EFL.
York City managed to clinch the title after a dramatic 1-1 draw with Rochdale. This result ensured they finished two points ahead of their rivals, securing the sole automatic promotion spot in the division. The tension of the game was palpable, as both teams fought for the top position.
Rochdale appeared to have taken the lead in the fifth minute of stoppage time when Emmanuel Dieseruwe headed his side into the lead. However, the goal was quickly followed by a pitch invasion by Rochdale supporters, leading to the match being temporarily halted.
Footage shared on social media captured the chaotic scene, showing a disturbing clash on the pitch. York midfielder Hiram Boateng appeared to be pushed to the ground by a Rochdale fan. A matchday steward intervened, helping Boateng get back on his feet.

Boateng then moved around the steward amidst the chaos before reportedly striking out at the Rochdale supporter. The fan was seen stumbling backwards and falling onto the pitch. It remains unclear what happened after the brief clip was posted online. Daily Mail Sport has reached out to York City for further comment.
Despite the incident, Boateng remained on the pitch as the match eventually resumed after a six-minute delay. Fans had returned to their seats, and the game continued with a thrilling conclusion.
In the final moments of the match, York equalised with a last-minute goal. Josh Stones was on hand to score following a goalmouth scramble, with the linesmen ruling that the ball had crossed the line despite a desperate clearance by Rochdale defender Tyler Smith.
York fans celebrated wildly as their team secured the National League title with 108 points. Rochdale, who earned 106 points, will now have to participate in the play-offs. They will face Southend or Scunthorpe next Sunday in a semi-final, despite finishing well ahead of both teams this season.
