Daniel Farke Hesitant to Celebrate as Leeds Extend Lead

Leeds United Secures Critical Win, But Daniel Farke Remains Cautious

Leeds United secured a crucial 3-1 victory over already-relegated Burnley at Elland Road, boosting their Premier League survival hopes. The win saw the team climb to 14th place with 43 points, nine points clear of the bottom three. However, manager Daniel Farke has made it clear that he is not ready to celebrate just yet.

Anton Stach opened the scoring early in the match with a brilliant goal, and the team continued their dominance in the second half with strikes from Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Despite Loum Tchaouna’s consolation goal for Burnley, the result extended Leeds’ unbeaten league run to six matches.

Farke expressed his cautious optimism, stating: “We will just celebrate once it’s mathematically done. 43 points is good, but I don’t want to stop on 43 points.”

He added: “I don’t see why we should stop right now. To just think, ‘hopefully it’s enough,’ because we’re in such a good shape and are delivering so many good performances. I said before the game we have 12 points to fight for. Right now, we have the first three under our belts and we want to win the following nine.”

The match was a statement of intent for Leeds, who bounced back from their recent FA Cup semi-final defeat against Chelsea. A swift two-goal burst in the second half by Okafor and Calvert-Lewin sealed the victory and showcased the team’s resilience.

Farke praised his players for their performance, saying: “I’m just proud of my players and have to give them so many compliments because to live in such a pressure period and deliver in your last four Premier League games 10 points, and six (games) unbeaten. And we also had a historical cup run where we also concentrated in important games.”

He highlighted the challenges faced by the squad, including the absence of key players such as Joe Rodon, Anton Stach, Jaka Bijol, and Noah Okafor. “The mentality, work ethic, unity and the spirit in the dressing room is really second to none. I’m just so proud of what they are delivering at the moment.”

Burnley’s relegation was confirmed after their 1-0 home defeat to Manchester City last week. The club has since parted ways with manager Scott Parker by mutual consent. Interim manager Mike Jackson addressed the situation, stating that he has not considered taking over permanently.

Jackson said: “I’m not trying to be disrespectful to you. It’s just something that hasn’t even been mentioned. I was literally told on (Thursday) morning, to try and prep a team to come to Leeds and that’s been my sole focus.”

He acknowledged the shock of Parker’s departure, noting that it affected the team’s performance. “I knew this game could probably go one or two ways with what’s happened in the last 24 hours. It’s been a big shock to the group, in terms of Scott leaving and the relationship he had with the players, and I think it knocked them a bit.”

Jackson also spoke highly of Parker, describing him as a close friend and a leader who handled himself with dignity throughout the season. “His dignity and the way he has handled himself, I’ve got full admiration for that.”

Burnley suffered their fifth consecutive league defeat, with only one win in their last 25 top-flight games. The club faces an uncertain future as they look to regroup and rebuild under new leadership.

For Leeds, the win is a step closer to securing Premier League safety, but Farke remains focused on the task ahead. With 12 points still up for grabs, the team is determined to maintain their momentum and ensure they avoid the drop.
