Messi and Antonella Shine at Miami Grand Prix Gala

High-Profile Attendees at the Miami Grand Prix

Lionel Messi has joined a host of high-profile names at the Miami Grand Prix, where he was spotted arriving with his wife Antonella and their three sons. The event, which is set to take place three hours earlier than scheduled on Sunday, has seen race officials move the start time from 4pm ET to 1pm due to the threat of a potential thunderstorm later in the day.

Less than two hours before the earlier start, Messi and his family were seen making their way into the Miami International Autodrome, where they were among a group of A-list stars. At one point, the Argentina World Cup winner, who is currently in his fourth season with Inter Miami, posed for a photo with actress Maia Reficco, the girlfriend of Alpine driver Franco Colapinto.

Not Just a Soccer Star

Messi is not the only sporting legend in attendance for Sunday’s race. Tennis great Rafael Nadal is also expected to be present, engaging in conversation with Spanish drivers Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz, as well as LIV Golf star Jon Rahm.

In addition to these sports stars, a number of non-sporting celebrities are also at the Miami Grand Prix. Late-night talk show host Jimmy Fallon and rapper DJ Khaled have both been spotted at the event.

Weather Concerns Lead to Schedule Change

F1 bosses have taken the unusual precaution of moving Sunday’s Miami Grand Prix forward to avoid a forecast thunderstorm that could potentially wash the race away. A statement from the FIA, Formula One, and the Miami Grand Prix confirmed the decision: “The decision has been taken to move the start of Sunday’s Miami Grand Prix to 1pm in Miami. This decision has been taken to ensure the least amount of disruption to the race, and to ensure the maximum possible window to complete the Grand Prix in the best conditions and to prioritise the safety of drivers, fans, teams and staff.”

The decision was made between the governing FIA and Formula One Management, along with the sportsman owners, following qualifying on Saturday night. The risk of thunderstorms is particularly relevant in Florida, where state law dictates that major events must be postponed or cancelled if lightning strikes. With predictions of storms from 3pm, teams were informed of the decision to move the race forward, and they were happy to comply with the change.

A Unique Event Experience

The early start time is expected to provide better conditions for the race, ensuring that the event can proceed without interruption. Fans and participants alike are looking forward to what promises to be an exciting and memorable day at the Miami International Autodrome. With such a mix of sporting and entertainment figures in attendance, the event is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated in recent years.
