Mitch Evans’ Stunning Race 2 Victory from 17th in Berlin E-Prix

Unlikely Victory for Mitch Evans in Berlin E-Prix

In a stunning turn of events, Mitch Evans of Jaguar Racing secured an unexpected victory in the Berlin E-Prix on Sunday, starting from 17th on the grid. This win marks his second of the 2025/26 season, showcasing his strategic prowess and determination. Alongside him, Pascal Wehrlein of Porsche finished third, reclaiming the points lead.

Evans’ success was built on a calculated approach, where he chose to conserve energy rather than engage in early battles. This tactic proved effective as he gradually moved up the ranks after activating his first attack mode. On lap 25 of 37, he seized the lead, eventually crossing the finish line 0.8 seconds ahead of Nissan’s Oliver Rowland. Wehrlein completed the podium for Porsche, highlighting a strong performance by the team.

Race Dynamics and Key Moments

The race began with Wehrlein taking the lead from pole position, but it wasn’t long before the front was contested. Taylor Barnard took the lead on lap 2, only for the lead to change hands multiple times in the early stages. Drivers such as Nick Cassidy, Edoardo Mortara, Sebastien Buemi, and Joel Eriksson all had their moments at the front.

By lap 14, the top 18 cars were closely bunched, with just four seconds separating them. The pack-style contest continued until the first attack mode cycle. Rowland surged to the front on lap 18 despite a poor start from the penultimate row of the grid.

On lap 25, Evans activated his attack mode, saving up to 4% of his energy compared to his rivals. This move allowed him to take the lead, setting up a thrilling final 12 laps that featured a three-horse race between Evans, Rowland, and Wehrlein.

Strategic Moves and Podium Finish

Wehrlein initially took the lead after using his second attack mode, but Evans made a decisive move with four laps remaining, securing a record-extending 16th Formula E win. Shortly after, Rowland overtook Wehrlein at the start/finish straight amid a debris warning on track, although he escaped investigation. Rowland claimed a double podium over the weekend, while Wehrlein’s third-place finish put him back at the top of the leaderboards.

Evans’ win moved him up to second in the standings, with overnight leader Edoardo Mortara finishing seventh for Mahindra. Nissan driver Norman Nato secured his best result of the season in fifth, following a similar strategy to his teammate Rowland. Jake Dennis of Andretti added another solid haul of points in sixth, followed by Mortara in seventh.

Other Notable Performances

Jean-Eric Vergne finished eighth for Citroën, while Felipe Drugovich of Andretti scored his first points of the year in ninth. Erikson of Envision Racing rounded out the top 10.

Nico Müller, the Saturday winner for Porsche, finished outside the points in 13th after a late collision with Jaguar driver Antonio Felix da Costa, which triggered the only full-course yellow of the weekend.

Nick Cassidy, a Citroën star, was eliminated from contention after two incidents early in the race. He was forced wide by Mahindra driver Nyck de Vries at Turn 6-7 on lap 4, dropping him outside the top 10. Later, he collided with Envision driver Buemi, leading to an unscheduled pit stop for a front wing change. De Vries was the only other retiree, suffering terminal damage from the incident.
