Monster $32k EV price drop

Cadillac Lyriq’s Price Reduction Makes It More Accessible

Cadillac has made a significant change to the pricing of its Lyriq mid-size electric SUV in Australia. Initially, the brand offered a retail price reduction earlier this year, but now this lower price is permanent. The Lyriq is now available from $90,000 before on-road costs or $95,000 drive-away, regardless of whether you choose the Luxury or Sport trim.

This represents a substantial decrease of $32,000 from the original launch price. As a result, the Lyriq now falls below the Luxury Car Tax (LCT) threshold for ‘fuel-efficient vehicles’. This means that if you purchase the Lyriq using a novated lease, it is exempt from Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT).

Positioning in the EV Market

The Lyriq sits between two other models in Cadillac’s lineup: the smaller Optiq, which starts at $80,000 before on-road costs, and the larger Vistiq, priced at $116,000 before on-road costs. There have been no changes to the powertrain or standard equipment of the Lyriq.

The vehicle is powered by a dual-electric motor setup with a total system output of 388kW. It is supported by a 102kWh lithium-ion battery, which allows for a claimed range of up to 530km according to WLTP testing.

Standard Features

The standard equipment on the Lyriq includes:

  • 21-inch alloy wheels
  • LED lights
  • A panoramic glass sunroof
  • Power tailgate
  • A 33-inch digital screen setup
  • A 19-speaker AKG sound system
  • Interior ambient lighting
  • Leather upholstery with heated and ventilated front seats featuring a massage function, as well as heated and ventilated outboard rear seats

Future Models and Production

Cadillac has confirmed that the high-performance Lyriq-V will be coming to Australia in 2026. However, it is unclear if this timeline remains unchanged. Cadillac Australia has been contacted for further details, and updates will follow once received.

The iconic American carmaker, which operates under the General Motors (GM) umbrella, launched in Australia last year as an EV-only brand. The Lyriq was its first model, followed by the larger Vistiq and the smaller Optiq.

Manufacturing and Sales Strategy

All Cadillac cars sold in Australia are manufactured in right-hand drive at the factory. This is different from some other GM models that are converted from left- to right-hand drive locally by Walkinshaw.

Despite being in the Australian market for over 12 months, Cadillac does not officially report its sales figures. The brand currently has an ‘Experience Centre’ in Sydney and a test drive location in Melbourne. Plans are underway to open a new dealer in Brisbane during the first half of 2026, as well as another in Melbourne.
