Mother Gave Birth to Twins in Partner’s BMW, Says It Was Better Than Hospital

A Unique Birth Experience

For most expectant mothers, giving birth in a car would be an extremely traumatic experience. However, Chloe Weston’s story is quite different. The 28-year-old mother of three says she would do it all over again and even considers it better than being in a hospital.

Ms. Weston was caught off guard when her waters broke a week before her scheduled C-section. She ended up giving birth to her twins, Koah and Kyro, in the front seat of her partner’s BMW. At the time, she and her partner, Adrian Bradbury, were on their way to Queen’s Hospital in Burton, Staffordshire, but they encountered heavy traffic.

Mr. Bradbury, 33, decided to pull over, and just 30 minutes after her contractions started, Ms. Weston gave birth to her boys, who arrived just one minute apart. The newborns were wrapped in blankets donated by a stranger and taken to the hospital, where they stayed for a week.

The twins, now five months old, are thriving, and Ms. Weston describes it as her “easiest birth.” She also has two other children, Jacob, aged six, and Leo, aged two.

A Surprising and Smooth Delivery

Ms. Weston shared that she gave birth to one twin by the time they had pulled over, but he fell into the footwell. It only took about 30 minutes from the start of her contractions until the birth of both twins.

She recalls catching them herself and holding them to her chest. “I was in so much shock,” she said, “but it was a really easy birth. I was listening to my own body. It was a better experience compared to being in a hospital environment.”

At an appointment on November 14 last year, she was told that her twins were breech and transverse—feet first and positioned sideways—so she opted for a scheduled C-section a week later. However, her waters broke at 3:30 pm that day. Ms. Weston and Mr. Bradbury quickly jumped into the car, but they got stuck in traffic on the A38 near Willington.

With no choice but to push, Ms. Weston gave birth to Koah, weighing 6lb 4oz, as Mr. Bradbury pulled the car over. He got out and sought help from nearby police officers, but by the time he returned, Kyro had already arrived, weighing 5lb 2oz.

As they waited for an ambulance, a local resident, whom they have since tracked down on Facebook to thank, provided the couple with pink blankets to keep their babies warm. They were in the hospital for a week, and Kyro spent two days in the intensive care unit due to low blood sugar.

A Positive Outcome

Despite the unexpected nature of the event, Ms. Weston described the experience as completely different from what she had anticipated. “I was absolutely dreading it,” she said, “but the experience was pretty much the easiest with the twins. If I was to have another child, I’d happily be in the car all over again.”
