Audi Q9 interior unveiled: Triple screens and luxury chairs take on BMW X7

Audi is finally making its mark in the full-size luxury segment with the introduction of the Audi Q9, a spacious three-row SUV designed to compete directly with the BMW X7 and Mercedes GLS. One of the most notable features of this new model is its triple-screen digital dashboard, which offers an advanced and immersive driving experience. The cabin design also focuses on providing genuine legroom in the third row, addressing a common issue that the smaller Q7 model faced. This achievement is made possible by the new Premium Platform Combustion (PPC), allowing Audi to combine high-output hybrid engines with a tech-rich interior.

A Cabin Built Around Displays

The interior of the Audi Q9 feels more like a digital lounge than a traditional cockpit. At the heart of the dashboard is a curved OLED unit that serves as the central hub for both driving data and infotainment. What sets this apart is the front passenger’s own independent screen, enabling them to watch movies or adjust navigation without distracting the driver. Most physical buttons have been eliminated, replaced by haptic touch surfaces and a sleek center console. All systems are powered by the new E3 1.2 electronic architecture, ensuring the car remains up-to-date through wireless software updates.

Real Third-Row Comfort and Captain Chairs

Unlike many “seven-seaters” where the back row is only suitable for children, the Q9 has been designed to accommodate adults comfortably in the third row. Buyers can choose between a seven-seater configuration or the more luxurious six-seat “Executive” version. The latter replaces the middle bench with two individual captain chairs equipped with heating, cooling, and massage functions. To enhance the sense of space, Audi has included a massive panoramic sunroof and smart ambient lighting that flashes red when a vehicle is approaching while trying to open the door.

Technology and Practical Buyer Impact

Mechanically, the Q9 is built to handle both city commutes and long highway trips, thanks to mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid technologies. For buyers, this translates into a surprisingly efficient vehicle for its size, especially with the air suspension that lowers the car at high speeds to improve aerodynamics. Inside, there’s a clear shift towards sustainable luxury, with Audi incorporating recycled materials alongside premium leathers. This strategic move ensures the Q9 offers not just digital connectivity and environmental consciousness but also a strong road presence.
