Wests Tigers Extend Contract of Sunia Turuva
The Wests Tigers have made a significant move by extending the contract of outside back Sunia Turuva, ensuring his continued presence at the club until the end of the 2030 season. This three-year extension means that Turuva, who was previously contracted until the end of 2027, will now remain with the team for another three years.
Turuva, the 2023 Rookie of the Year and a two-time premiership winner, has delivered impressive performances this season. His contributions have been vital as the Tigers aim to make their first finals campaign since the 2010 season. The 23-year-old joined the club last season alongside Jarome Luai, and his impact has been felt both on and off the field.
“Being part of Benji’s vision here at the Club has been special,” Turuva said in a statement. “The connection and culture we’ve created inside this group has been a massive part of our growth. I love playing alongside my brothers and can’t wait for what’s ahead.”
He also expressed gratitude towards Benji Marshall and the club for their faith in him, as well as his family for their unwavering support. “I just want to keep repaying them on the field each week,” he added.
Benji Marshall, the head coach of the Tigers, is thrilled that Turuva will be staying with the club for the long term. “Tito brings so much to our team. He’s a huge character that adds so much energy to everything we do,” Marshall said.
“He’s got a great work ethic and is a big driver of our standards. Tito is a leader within our group, not just through his voice but through his professionalism, competitiveness and team-first mentality.”
Marshall also highlighted Turuva’s growth as a player and his potential for even greater achievements in the future. “We’re really pleased to have Tito with us for the next four seasons. He’s growing as a player, and we think his best is still to come. We couldn’t be happier to have Tito and his family here at the Tigers until 2030.”
This season, Turuva has scored four tries, provided two try assists, made 36 tackle breaks, and recorded 10 line breaks. His performances have been instrumental in the Tigers’ efforts to build a strong and cohesive team.
For the Tigers, this contract extension continues a trend of securing key players for the remainder of the decade. Other notable extensions include Taylan and Terrell May, as well as Jahream Bula, all of whom have signed with the Tigers through the end of the 2030 season.
This strategic move by the Tigers highlights their commitment to building a quality organisation from top to bottom. With Turuva’s continued presence, the club is poised to strengthen its position in the competition and work towards achieving its goals in the coming seasons.
